| Breed Or Not To Breed? I have two yorkies a male 10 months - Sebastian and a female (Sweet Pea) 4 months. I thought I would have one litter and then get them spayed and neutered. Well, when I got Sweet Pea she become very ill and it took a lot of nursing, bottle feeding, force feeding etc, to save her life, which we did, she is a healthy 4 month old pup. Every since I got Sweet Pea Sebastian has regressed in his housebreaking. He thinks my house is just a big pee pee party . This little 5 lbs dog is to funny, we laugh and say he was way to much testasteron (sp) for his little body, he is Mr. Macho, in his walk, his actions just everything (he's so cute I love him to pieces). The vet said if I neuter him it should cure his need to spray around the house, but I hate to rush into anything to regret it. They are so cute they would have the cutest pups. But, I wonder how would I keep them apart until Sweet Pea goes into at least her 2nd heat? I couldn't bear to keep them caged and separated, they are inseparable. Is it selfish of me to want to breed? I enjoy them so much I would love to give a few pups to deserving families (after a lengthy interview process), or do I really need to add to the Yorkie population? Advice? Thanks

| From what I am told breeding even one litter takes alot of research, time and money. JMO, but I would leave it up to breeders. Why take the risk and have something happen?? |

| Hi There! You should take some time and research this forum for all of the advice on breeding. There is a lot including what books to read and the fact that it is best to have a mentor, especially for your first litter. A mentor would be an experienced yorkie breeder who would take you under their wing ad show you the ropes so to speak and actually be there for the whelping. All of this education will take time and, in the meantime, so you do not feel pressured to make the decision, I would suggest buying some belly bands for your male. It will make your life much easier! Good luck! |

| Jennette can speak to you regarding the neutering and housebreaking issue... She just had Max neutered and that has "cured" the problems she was having with him... hopefully she can come on and post to tell you her experience with that. As far as any other issues... Since your little girl is only four months, are you sure she will even grow to be big enough to breed? There are so many breeders on YT that can give you great advice about what you should take into consideration.

| Thank you for your advice I will look around the board for advice. My female should be close to the exact size of my male following his growth chart she is actually ahead of him 2-3 ounces. My male Sebastian is 5.3 lbs. Sweet Pea should get at least 5 lbs. Thanks again

| There is a good thread on this subject called 'I want to breed my yorkie' you can check for info. Health needs to be your number one concern and you said you had some issues with your girl already, but no specifics. You have a lot of time to research before this becomes even possible which is great. The biggest question to answer is the WHY. Good luck. |

| Breed or not to Breed Bely bands are wonderful for the male who likes to hike his leg in the house. I have found that it only gets worse in the male once you use him for breeding- and that neuterin him may not solve the problem if you have used him as a stud. Have you looked at the Yorkshire Terrier Standard? Sit down and look at each one of your kids- get a paper and right down their good points and the bad points(Faults) that you see in each one of them. When you are looking to breed you want the twp parents to be to compliment each other- and if one has a fault you should try and make sure that the other parent is strong in that area. Take the kids to the vet and have them checked out from head to toe- are they sound- do they have good solid knees and hips- If the vet has concerns about thier physical structure they may not be candidates for breeding. Are you prepared for the investment of time and money that it will cost to raise a litter of yorkies. Do you have the money set aside for the tails to be dockek and dewclaws removed. If there are problems can you pay for a C-section? Can you be with that mom no matter when she goes into labor? If you have a smalll weak puppy do you have all the items at hand to help supplement that kid every two hours for the first couple of weeks. Do you have the place to keep a litter of yorkies? One or two puppies can cause a lot of damage to your home. ( I have my first wall paper remover- hubby said that I taught him to do it cause I want the kitchen remodeled) Are you prepared to make the financial investment for vaccinations/ wormings etc at the vet. Are you willing to find a good loving home for the babies? Wnalegria |

| Belly bands are great! If you breed him, he may have to live in one forever even after neutering, from what I am told. |
