| Terror in the Night! A couple of nights ago, Don took little Higgins out for his evening walk before we went to bed. We are camped in an RV park where Higgins has spent a good part of his life, so he knows it well. Well, when they got down the loop road a bit, there were kids skateboarding under a streetlight ahead of them. The kids were perfectly well behaved and didn't approach Don and Higgins, but Higgins FREAKED! He turned right around and started to DRAG Don back to our campsite. Don picked him up and held him and he was trembling soooooo much. When he got back, he ran right to his mommy (me) and wouldn't have anything to do with Don. Then, when I took him out for his walk early the next morning, he got about 3 campsites down from ours and REMEMBERED what had happened the night before. DRAGGED me right back to the camper and really didn't want to go out for the rest of the day! When we took him outside, he stayed GLUED to our ankles. Gradually got better during the day. He was terrified when Don took him out last night after dark. It will be interesting to see how he does today. Higgins has always been "wary" around children.....sort of fearful.....so it will be interesting to see how he behaves now. Every time he heard kids yesterday, he looked to us for reassurance. I hope he won't be mean to kids. Must have been the sound of the skateboards.....??? Have your little ones ever been really scared by something? Mary Ellen |

| Funny you should mention this. We went to my in-laws house for a few days and it was the first time Sandy has been introduced to their Pug. Sandy is scared of big dogs, but has been totally fine around other small dogs (a toy poodle, lhaso apso, two other yorkies and a pom) but the second she layed eyes (or nose, who can say?) on my mother-in-law's pug, she started shaking and wanted me to hold her. I ended up holding her almost the entire time we were there, and the only people she wanted near her were my daughter and I. So, whew - I have NO idea, but sometimes these little guys just get scared and need reassurance. Sometimes something small can set them off. Anyway, good luck with little Higgins. My suggestion would be to continue to give him lots of love and reassurance - that's what I did anyway

| Yep! The Toto is easily spooked too! As long as we hold her she is fine but if she is on the floor and gets frightened by loud noises or any startling sound she almost climbs right up our leg! She is OK with most children but there are some and actually a few adults that she shys away from! It's really uncanny how they "know" ... last summer my brother [who lives in CA] came to visit ... he and his wife have two terriers and are dog lovers ... my other brother is a jerk and hates all animals. They both came over to visit my Mom and Toto lept right into the lap of the brother from CA and avoided the jerk brother like the plague!!!

| Wow, Higgins sure remembers well. I would think it's the sound of the skateboards on pavement that freaks him out, maybe give him a little treat if you are around that area again if he remembers it and freaks out again. Yoda knows to avoid small children (under 3 or so), as they always grab at his face and he hates it. He has snapped and growled at a few little kids that have done so, but no bites or anything. He's always cautious and wary of anyone that small though, which is smart, since they walk around oblivious and could easily injure him. |

| When I am walking with mine, Rudy wants everyone to pet him, Maddie comes to me to be picked up. She will let people she knows love on her, but is wary of strangers. Maddie is a mom's girl.................Cindy |
