(NY supposedly has some of the cleaniest best water)....Yeah ALL RIGHT!!!!......last night it was on the 10 o'clock news that duie tot he rain the reserviour flooded and NY'ers are told not to drink out of the tap because it is contaiminated!!!!! Well I don't drink water (because it skeeves me)...but what about Maximus...I think they waited just a bit long here....so last night I went and bought bottled and that is what he will drink from now on...will the effects be immediate if he's injured or will contamination take a while??? PS ....all of us in NY....they are sayin we have to boil water till 12 today but I would consider FROM, NOW ON or boiled...go to nyc.gov

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | WOW. That is amazing that can happen there....I would go with the thought that he'll be ok - and set aside some in the fridge - that's what I do - big gallon water jug - it stays cold and you don't have to worry - it's a hassle boiling water though - ....Hope NY gets this problem taken care of - I can't see everyone in the city boiling water though - so it may be harmless....ps...USUALLY if something is contaminated and as with food poisening - you see the effects pretty fast....tummy problems...bathroom etc...if he's not showing any signs chances are he'll be ok !! |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I agree it's very scary ...you'd think they'd have something set up to prevent something like this - but LUCKY it wasn't bacteria or something REALLY dangerous - it sounds like you should be ok ! If it was a really bad contamination - it would have made national news with a PANIC story - I know how you felt hearing this - we just trust our water is safe - hear something like this and think - HOW could this be ? Glad he's ok...you poor thing - like we don't have enough trouble sleeping without worrying about WATER !! |

| I never drink tap water or give it to my dogs. Around here we are always getting the 'boil water' notice. We get our water from a nearby lake and in the summer all the boats dump their waste into the water in the lake (they are not suppose to but they do anyway). It really makes me mad! I just don't take chances anymore. At least it wasn't that! That can really make you sick. I just buy gallon jugs of cheap water at Kroger or Walmart (where ever they are on sale) and keep them in the fridge. Everything should be ok for Maximus, but I understand your worrying. | I do think they get these warnings out pretty quick. Probably the amount you could drink before hearing such a warning would not be so bad. I think you did great just changing him over to bottled water right quick. I think stuff like this is like bug spray and such. The more exposure to bad stuff, the less healthy they will be. If we try to keep down the contaminants, we all stay a lot healthier - including our pets, babies and old people. DO warn your friends!

| Being a retired health official, I can tell you that from where the contamination point is located, it may take up to several hours to a few days to reach the tap--depending how far you live from the resevoir tanks, and how much water has been used. Water is pumped to the tanks, then distributed to the homes. These tanks will need to be flushed and refilled. He shouldn't have any ill effects from the water. Animal tolerance to bacteria is incredible. Where humans might not be so comfortable.

| I would imagine that Maximus is ok. Luckily I've heard that dogs have a higher immune system or something like that and can handle some "bad water" at times better than us humans. (Think about all the times you've seen doggies drink water from gutters or dirty ponds and such) You are such a good Mommy taking all the precaustions you did and keeping such a watchful eye over him. Maximus is such a happy lucky Yorkie to have you.

| I don't know why they wait. He's probably allright, but bottled water is a good idea. We have well water here and it's pretty good, but we still have a osmosis system an that's the best tasting water, even tastes better than bottled. That's what we drink over here, all of us...

| I was wondering that in the shower this morning...is it clean???...lol, and then of course Maximus likes to lick the ankles and toes dry so he was hanging out on the toilet seat while I dried off...I will buy bottled water from now on just in case..I used to do it when he was a baby..but everyone was giving me slack for it, they were telling em how NYC water is better then bottled and it has flouride in which is good for the teeth etc. etc., Thank you Stitches that made me feel better..I was wondering why it took so long and of course my bf had to make it worse....it was like he was accusing me of giving him bad tap water on purpose!!!

| I think Maximus will be fine! As gross as it is, dogs drink yucky water all the time from mud puddles, the gutter, etc. I think God gave them the ability to do this without getting sick! I think the bottled water is a good ide though, just in case.
