| Cry Baby!! Hi everyone! I am a new Yorkie owner, but have been reading the forums long before I got my little Mia. You guys are just great! Maybe you can help me out. Okay, here is the deal... We got Mia 2 weeks ago (she was 8 wks old, now 10 wks). We have been putting her in a crate at night time and when we cannot keep our full attention on her (like when I am in the shower, or have to run a few errands, etc). Her crate started out in the kitchen... she cried and cried and cried. So we moved it to the bedroom...she still cried and barked...and cried! So after a few nights of NO sleep, we moved her back to the kitchen...still crying. Will she ever get used to her crate? As soon as she is potty trained, she can be wherever she wants to, but for the time being, she has to be in there, and it is breaking my heart to hear her so sad. I take her to work with me, so it is not like she is in her crate very much. Maybe a couple of hours during the day, and then all night. But she HATES that thing! Any suggestions????? Thanks! |

| Congrat on the new puppy! Here is something to try. Try putting a shirt or something in with your scent on it in the crate with her. Also it might help if you get a sheet and cover the crate up at night. If she cries don't give into her or you will cause her to develop a bad habit that is hard to break. good luck and congrats!! |

| Mine was and still is a big time crier. But at night I don't put up with it and I don't give in. She needed to know that she won't get her way but annoying me to death and making me sad with her cute cries. I just ignored her. YES granted it took 3 weeks of non stop crying. She got the picture and no peep out of her at all. She doesn't make a sound until I wake up. If I sleep till 10am, she sleeps till then or keeps herself occupied in her crate. They do learn, it just takes some time to show them that they are not the boss of you. Well at least not at night...lol

| Oh your story brings back memories of Schatzie when she was just a itty baby pup crying in her kennel. We let her cry and we ignored her. If she cried for long periods of time we'd tap her crate with a spoon and say "quiet". Eventually she stopped and now enjoy's her crate when she needs to go in one. Welcome to YT, so glad you posted. Please post pics of your baby Mia.

| I just wanted to welcome you and Mia to YT. I dont use a crate but others here do and I know it gets better. You need to be consistent and learn to ignore her cries. I know is hard but soon it will get much easier. Good luck. I will love to see pics if you have any of Little Mia. |

| How often during the night do you take her out of the crate to PP or Poo. The little ones at that age can't hold it much longer than two hours. With Maggie, I got up every two hours to take her outside to PP. She is now 4 months old and completely housebroken. She even rings a bell on the back door when she needs to go out. As long as you know your baby does not have to PP or Poo ----- DO NOT give into her and take her out of the crate, just because she cries. I too only use the crate for Maggie to sleep in. During the day, if I need to go to the store, she plays in her exercise pen. Until she get her adult teeth, I don't feel safe leaving her to run loose in the house alone. Your baby will calm down, once they know they can't bluff you anymore.

| Don't use a crate, but wanted to welcome you and little Mia to YT! I used a playpen when the babies were little but now they have the run of the "puppy-proofed" house. |

| Thank you so much for your replies and help! I think I simply needed to hear that it will get better! Actually it already is getting (a tad) better. She is figuring out that her crying and barking is not a ticket out, so she only cries for about 10 min when I first put her in, and then she is done. She just needs to let me know she's not happy! She is very strong willed (LIKE ME!!!) so I do have to sympathize with her...afterall, it is NO fun at all not getting your way! I will put pictures of Mia up once I get it all figured out how to! She is soooo cute... so get ready!!!! I have to brag on her... tomorrow she will be 11 wks old, and she has already learned to "sit" (last week), and "lay down" (just today)!!!!! I am just SOOOOOOO proud of her! Thanks so much again for letting me vent, and gloat about my little baby! I really look forward to chatting more with all of you!!! Holly |

| Mine cried the first week and I ignored her. At times, when it seemed forever I would say real loud SHHHH, then she would quiet down. It does break your heart though!
