| Will it ever end??? I have a Yorkie that will be 1 yr next month. He does whine when he needs to go outside but then there are times (about 3 times a day) that he just goes and instead of going in one place he leaves a trail of pee. He knows it is bad because then he hides in the corner. And it isn't like he has to hold it he goes outside every 30 minutes most of the time he plays out there but he goes if he needs to. When will these "accidents" stop because my family is tired of puddles. |

| Could he just be marking his territory? Just an idea...we trained our Zoe to ring the bell with potty bells and it does wonders. Sometimes too well...she'll ring the bell when she wants attention or when she wants to go outside to play. |

| I do not think so I had him neutered about a month ago and he quit hiking his leg indoors. This is more of a peeing thing rather than a marking thing. he has learned to whine in our faces when he wants something (not my idea, kids thought it was cute at first) but he will get in your lap or as close to your face as he can whine. When he does this we ask if if he wants out if he does he does what we call a teddy bear dance were he spins on his back legs. |

| Does he have full run of your house? Cause if he does, maybe you've just given him a little too much freedom... and now he thinks he can do as he pleases. I mean, these pups know without a doubt when they've done something they shouldnt have. Maybe you should take away some of his privilages until he gets better.... My Meka had accidents on my bed all the time, until she could no longer get on the bed... After doing that for a few weeks, I slowly allowed her on the bed again - and have yet to have anymore accidents. Hope this helps...

| If I were you I would put him on a schedule for potting outdoors. If he goes out at least 4-5 times daily at the same time every day you may solve your problem. Waiting for him to whine my, at times, be too late. |

| I do have a schedule for him and I follow it always since I stay at home but in between times he whines to go out. But I will try taking away some of his free roam area. Right now the only places he can go are the kitchen and living room maybe I will confine him to the living room and see if that helps. Thanks for the advice. |

does have an accident I would immediately repremand him and take him outdoors. Then put him in one room with a gate up for awhile and start over. Much like re-training him. He'll get the idea. Good luck. | |

| I feel that you may need to re-assess how you are looking at this whole process. Based on what you have said, these are things that I think are going on: 1. He understands that it's ok to go potty outside, but it's not the ONLY place to go potty. Somewhere along the line, he has not assimulated the information that it's the ONLY acceptable area to go potty and that's why he still goes in the house. 2. He understands that you get mad at him and that is why he slinks away and hides, but he really does NOT understand why you are getting mad at him. He has not made the connection yet, otherwise, he would terminate the behavior that gets you angry. 3. He whines to go outside, when he wants to go outside, not when he needs to go potty outside. I think going potty outside is only incidental to the outside activity. I think the only way you are going to make the connection with him is to catch him in the act, every single time he does it in the house. This means you are going to have to keep up the schedule of potty times and keep yor eye on him at all times while he is in the house. (you are going to have to tether him to you or you will need to follow him everywhere he goes). When you see him squat to pee, you will need to clap your hands loud and say "no". and immediately take him outside. You are going to need to catch him in the act several times, before he connects the dots. You are also going to have to make sure the areas that he has peed on are clean and free of urine smell. The only products that I know that work that do that is "nature's miracle" and "simple solution". You may need to involve your kids to help you to watch him. When no one can keep 100% of their focus on him, you will need to confine him in an area that he cannot go pee in (i.e. crate or small enclosed area) I think that after a couple of months of this "boot camp" you are going to see some results.
