| Biting grooming brushes Just wonderring if anyone has any advice for me. Chico is great when taking his weekly baths but after bath time and it turns into grooming time he totally hates it! He bites, fusses, and wiggles around so much it's soo hard to do anything. I start with the blow dryer which is his number one enemy and then brush him which is the biggest struggle! When I'm brushing his back or anywhere else really he's there biteing the the brush. I've tried chew toys, the tv remote, stuffed animals, even my fingers just to keep him away from the brush! My fingers are working well and I'm able to complete the brushing with being able to "at times" do a pony tail, sometimes crocked but it's on his head!LOL. but I know this is a very bad habit I'm getting myself into. Is there any other way I can get him used to brushing? Will he just adjust and get used to it after awhile since he's only 4 months? I have no clue! Please anyone someone advise!!!!

| I have the same problem pixie, Buddy is also 4 months, i give him a pet tab vitamin while i brush him cos he loves them and it keeps him happy but not for long enough. I do exactly the same thing, let him gnaw on my hands just to get him brushed, he's ok with his top end but he hates his back legs being brushed. Its battle of the furball when the brush comes out. lol

| I also have a similar problem with my 3 month old -- you would think I was killing him !! It took me a week to figure out which chew toy kept him the busiest the longest and now I only take it out when I brush him. He gets so excited because he LOVES that chew toy. I still have problems - but the toy is a great distraction ! |

| Hello, My little Wynstn is just 12 and 1/2 weeks. When I first got him he would let me brush him just before I put him to bed for the nite, he was really tired, now OH MY, he fights, bites, spits and wiggles. I am so afraid I will not be able to "tame" him so I can keep him looking good . Any suggestions would really help. I do have a book that says don't let him be the boss, yeah right! |

| Bella does the same thing....someone on here told me to get a 2nd brush and let her chew on one while I brush her with the other and it works, she lets me brush her as long as she has one to chew on the handle!!

| My mom totally laughed at me when she came in my house while I was grooming Tinkerbell in the first few weeks I had her. I put a leash on her and wrapped it around my neck so I would have two hands to groom her without worrying about her taking a dive off the table (I really want one of those things people have at the groomers with the stand and the loop) I put those surgical gloves on and sprayed my hands and the comb with bitter apple, It took 2 or 3 times of doing this before I could brush without fighting. Now she is perfect about grooming. Good luck! |

| Linus does the exact same thing. We started out just giving him our fingers until he drew blood! Now we fill up his Kong with peanut butter and give it to him so he can chew on that. It keeps him busy enough to get through it!

| Sweetie did the same thing when I first got her and started brushing her - you just have to keep at it and let them know who's boss... now she's great and stays still for me to blow dry her or brush her - however, when we are done she knows she will get a treat for being so good..... bribery works... | Katia does the same thing but she's actually trying to play with the brush. She doesn't mind being brushed if you can distract her long enough to do it but the brush itself usually turns into a chew toy. Do like my wife does, use a nylabone to distract as you brush her.

| Honey hated being brushed when we first got her - we tried all the suggestions of "introducing" the brush to her and making her feel "comfortable" around the brush - but she would have NONE of it! She has gotten better as she has gotten older, but I tell you the one thing that helped us the most is keeping her hair short in a puppy cut style! I loved her hair when it was longer but it was such a pain for both us and her. Every time we would try to brush it, she would run away from us. Now, she (almost) seems to like it - she will at least put up with it for long enough for us to brush her decently. The shorter hair also helps with bathing and styling (she's never been a fan of all the hair bows and stuff) and we live in Florida so it keep her cooler as well! That's my best advice! |
