| Crate Training I've read up all there is to read. Can someone please explain to me how often do you use the crate when you crate train? Do you keep them in there all the time, except to potty or eat? And for a Yorkie, what kind of crate do you have? I have a small one, it looks like a carrier, but made of soft material. He goes in tehre sometimes to nap during the day, but at night forget about it. And during the day when he's not napping he won't stay in there. (He barks and cries) Do I just let him bark? (Yeah.....I know) PLease give me some hope Will he ever want to use the newspaper??? I posted about potty training.. Mari |

| [QUOTE=marcerella02;1227422]well i think it depends on if you can be home all day> and all i can help with is if you are going to be home with him. Yeah I'll be home until September with him >> at night he might cry.. if he does take him out fast to pee.. no talking.. just praise after he does his business.... then back in the crate.. if he cries again.. just ignore him.. he will fall asleep.. and will probably wake uyou up again at night to pee more.. Funny you say that, He only cried the first two nights. Interestingly, he's so small but since I've had him, has never gon potty at night. So We leave him upstairs, but close our bedrooms. He has his own little "hallway" space >>make sure he can see you when he is in his crate so he doens't feel alone... I feel bad. I think I'm getting another crate for the day time because the one I have is more like a carrier. It has mesh on the four sides but I feel like he can't see me. Thanks for the tips . mari |

| We didn't use a crate all the time either. I was also home with Reagan so I was able to watch her closely, although I'll admit I could've done better. Anyway What I did is I only used the crate right before she went out. Like if she goes out every 2 hours then maybe 15-20 mintues before the two hours I would put her in her crate then take her out at the 2 hour mark. If she didn't go back in the crate she went then back out in maybe another 15 minutes or something. Also if you are actually watching her and maybe at the time that you would put her in her crate she's sleeping then I would prob let her sleep until its time to go out(as long as you are going to watch her and make sure she doesn't get up and wander around and use the bathroom in your house) then if she doesn't go when you take her out put her in the crate when you come back in. My thinking was that this way she isn't crated all day but only right around when she's going to have to go potty. I will admit though that I'm such a slacker I didn't stick to it, or any particular method, very well. The best thing for me was just to try and get her outside before she really had to go.
