| Don't know what to do next Hi everyone. I have two male Yorkies aged 18 months. The breeder I got them from was registered with the UK Pet agency and I really trusted her. However she sold me two boys who are brothers and as I have since learned this makes things very hard when it comes to their behaviour. For the past year we've been having trouble with their excessive barking, going to the toilet in the house when our backs are turned and lately there have been signs of agression. We consulted a dog trainer and she gave us a lot of tips, and said most of the problems were down to the one of the dogs, Biscuit being so utterly nervous. The barking I can deal with and I am trying to control it, the marking in the house I understand but the agression scares me and today we had an incident where they launched into an attack for no apparent reason and Bailey lost a chunk of his ear. I'm very worried now that one, they will hurt each other badly or two, they will hurt one of us. Bailey often snaps at us when we go near him to put on his lead or to groom him - basically when we do anything that he doesn't want us to do. When Biscuit sees Bailey going for us he will sometimes attack Bailey. In other instances Biscuit will be threatened by the doorbell or by a noise and he will attack Bailey. I just don't know what to do about it. I love them both so much and I do so much training with them. I don't want to give any of them up but I know that we really do need help and our trainer isn't returning my calls. |

| I'm in Essex, about 30 mins from central London - but I think I realise I may have to travel. So yeah - I'd appreciate the name or number, it's good to have a reccomendation. Thank you. We just took Bailey to the vet to get some antibiotics and she cut him with the clippers! What a day he's had. |

| What happened to brotherly love I guess that dosen't go for Yorkies. I would be so upset also. I wish you luck with the trainer. Hope it goes well because I can't imagine making a decision to let one go. I feel for you. Fingers crossed. |

| Most of the time they adore each other, they're cuddled up now and they can't be without each other. But once in a while something will snap and they'll go crazy. But I want to stem it before something really bad happens. Thanks for your reply. |

| Donna, The trainer that I use and love is Pauline Whittaker. She teaches classes and she does one-on-one sessions as well. Here is her website: http://www.paulinewhittaker.co.uk/ If you contact her, tell her that "Joey's Mom (Carol)" said hello!

| Hi everyone - mini update and a bit of a plea for advice! We have consulted a really good trainer and behaviour specialist and she has implemented big, big changes into my little boys lives. First on the advice of she and my vet they have both been neutered, just a few days ago. We decided to do both together as there was no clear higher ranking dog and she felt this was part of the bigger problem. So they are currently a bit sore and wearing those bustier collars to prevent them from licking their wounds. They also have crates, a 'no jumping on the sofa' rule, new food and overall a much stricter lifestyle. My question - are they going to hate me for this? They are used to snuggling with me on the sofa but it has given them the reign to roam and own the house, plus from the sofa they get a better view to bark at strangers passing our house. Then of course there's the danger of damage to their little bones from all the jumping. They just keep trying to climb up and I feel so awful turning them away. I know in the long run these changes will be for the best but I don't want my boys to hate me or feel that they are not loved. |

| Oh, Donna. That's why dogs are so wonderful - they love us anyway! Dogs are so incredibly forgiving. I don't think you have anything to worry about. It's also possible that they will feel more secure with you taking a stronger leadership role. Good for you for taking positive steps! I am proud of you! Go get yourself a treat.

| Thank you. The training is going so well and their behaviour has improved vastly. One of the dogs seems a bit scared though by all the change. I've just mailed my trainer because I don't want to be making him better in one way and worse in another! But yeah, I'm balancing the strict stuff with lots of playtime and walkies so hopefully they'll still love me!! |
