| whining in the car Hey my little girl has been really good about everything, even potty training *knock on wood*, but she whines like crazy in the car. She has been going in the car for 1-3 days a week since we got her. We tried brining the blanket with her scent on it, buying a dog car seat, even holding her in my lap while my husband is driving. And nothing works. Does anyone have any advice, suggestions?

| I am sorry I don't have any advice or suggestions on this one as I can't seem to do anything with my Golden in this situation and she is the worse. When I take all three dogs to the dog park it is about a 15-20min ride, she whines all the way to the point I have to turn up the music or open the car window. I've tried everything, chew toys, treats, commands. Even after running at the park she might settle down a little bit but still whines home. The little dogs look at her like..What is your problem?! Good luck, I guess just like people every dog has their thing!!! Kathy |

| Pippa used to whine in the car all the time, but i perserveered(sp) and kept taking her out in it. Starting at short 5 mins and working up gradually til now she will travel for over 2 hours with no whining!

| Riley was a terror when we first got her when it came to riding in the car. She would flip out, scream and bite the crate, etc. It was awful. Finally, I learned that covering her with a blanket signaled it was quiet time (a technique we have to use at home as well). I also would just turn on the radio and sing, ignoring her. Now she'll whine for just a few seconds then lie down and watch me drive. I also purchased a carrier that "contains" her a bit closer so she doesn't have a lot of free space. Good luck! I hope you can get your kiddo to settle down. |

| I have the same problem with my two yorkies. They are hysterical in the car. I asked my dog trainer about it and she said that I should get a car seat because they'd feel better being restrained. I know I'll have to be persistent with it, because I'm sure they'll whine even louder at first. Great idea about taking them out for a few minutes and gradually increasing the amount of time. I'll try that too. |
