| Can dogs forgot their potty training?! Hi all! I have a little potty training. Kikko had been so good for the past couple months. he'd pee and poo on the potty pads everytime, well more like 98% of the time. But then in the past couple weeks, he's been having a lot of accidents and be missing his potty pad. he's 6 months old now ... so i dont know what happend, he was so good and especially in the past couple of days, it seems like he completely forgot everything and where to he can go. I think I will start to outside train him now since he's had his first shot finally.

| Well, I can't offer any advice but I can sympathize with you. Tink has been doing the exact same thing. I'm so disheartened! I'll watch your thread to see if you get any good advice. |

| Yorkie Amnesia Epidemic Tell me about it guys. Starting yesterday, Holly started pooping on the floor, but was still using her potty pad to urinate. This morning she just totally passed her pad and just began to squat down somewhere else. Why the regression? I still had treated her every time she went and made a big deal about it. She'd been soooo good. Keep me posted guys. I WANT TO CRY!

| I have had 5 dogs and every one of them had their "setbacks" in potty training. Just when you trust them and theyv'e had no accidents for months or weeks, they seem to forget it all. I think this is a normal part of growing and training. I would just go back to the basics and praise praise praise when they get it right. Also, don't give them an opportunity to have a setback, always watch them and they will get it. It is always a different time frame for 100% for each dog, doesn't matter the breed.

| Potty training is like 2 steps forward, one step back. This can go on until around the age of 2 for some of them. Don't get discouraged. Most of them do learn eventually. They are just kids and if you raised a child, you know it is an ongoing process. If you haven't raised a child then just remember your own childhood. |

| I learned this great thing......I have the best dog trainer!!!! Just like humans....puppies have stages...baby, toddler, teenager, etc. Each stage, they have to "learn something" Baby...teething -->dont' bite fingers Toddler...potting training --->wee wee pad Teenager...rebelling ---> stop chewing up things, stop doing things out of spite, etc. Because of these various stages, they need to be trained again and again until they are one and a half years. Keep them crate trained, even if they are 100% angels.... Just because your puppy is or was 100% potty trained....doesn't mean you stop walking them over to the puppy pad. Occassionally, walk them over there, wait until they go, and give them a treat and praise them. That way they still know and they are reminded that YOU ARE THE PACK LEADER!! Hope this helps!! |

| My 1 yr. old Lola has been doing the same thing. Except she still poos on the potty pad, she just chooses to pee everywhere. Large pools of pee. I believe it's because she just can't tolerate the potty pad anymore. So, I've decided to walk her once in a morning and once late at night before I sleep. And during the day and while I'm gone at work, she'll hopefully use the potty pads as a last resort. Today I took her to the vet's for the second time because I caught her sitting in her own pee on her bed early this morning. So, I was scared. The vet says although it is a sign of incontinence, it is probably not incontinence, since it is really only one occurrence. Usually it occurs daily in older spayed dogs (they lose control of their bladder while they sleep) Hopefully housetraining her to go outside only and pottypad for emergencies will work out for me... |

| Good luck. Let us know how it goes for you. I need all the help I can get. I want to be able to put her down on the carpet and not just have her on the tile floor.

| I was wondering....Do you praise them and treat them when they go on their potty pad and you're not there to see it?

| Pete also has had set backs from time to time. . . he's two ! Im not sure if this will help anyone but I recently noticed that Pete absolutely does not like to pee and poo in the same spot so I put down two pads right next to eachother and we havent had a single accident in almost 3 months (knock on wood). Its also kinda funny because one pad will only have pee and the other only poo even though the pads are practically overlapping. As for giving praise and treats even if you dont see it; Pete will usually have a certain prance coming out of the bathroom with those eyes asking for a treat, then we walk into the bathroom together to make sure there's something fresh and if there is I give him treats. Just be carefull cause it wont be long till they try to trick you into free treats, sometimes Pete will go into the bathroom then come out all excited like "mom come look what I did" but when I check its spotless ! You just gotta love em!
