| Everytime she comes in she pees or poops in the house. No matter how long we stay outside she will NOT go outside. I put the diaper on her and in a second she is squatting. So I told her no and we went outside so she could finish. Of course she didn't. We stayed outside like 5 more minutes and nothing. So we go back inside. I put the diaper on her and she is playing with Cody (my 3 yr old yorkie) and she just disappeared. I go looking for her and she is pooping in my bedroom WTH!! I mean every single time we come in the house she goes. She HATES THE GRASS. She will NOT go to the bathroom outside. I put all the poop outside and I set her near it evertime we go out and she jumps away from it like she is grossed out. I have seen her pee twice outside (at like 2 in the morning and she only does it on the concrete), I saw her poop outside on Sunday but only because we were all outside having a BBQ so she had no choice. She is holding it at night in her crate. I take her out at around 1 or 2 and then get her up at like 5 or 6. We immediately go outside but she just walks around sniffing. She will not go outside. What else can I do?

I don't have an answer to your question, but I have a question for you. Are you GETTING her up at 1 or 2, or is SHE getting YOU up?? Because if she is whining at 1 or 2 to go potty, she would go right away, but if she is not whining, then leave her in her crate until she DOES whine, that way she will prob. potty right away OUTSIDE. | |

| No I get her up but those have been the only 2 times I have seen her go. I read that if she whines and I get her out then she will learn that when she whines that I will always come get her. Here is what I have done today since her poop/pee episode this morning. I have had her in her kennel all day. Taking her out every 1-2 hours to go potty. She has yet to potty. I have given her no play time at all and I feel guilty. I put her in the crate right after cause she isn't going outside. It is now 1:30 my time and she hasn't went to the bathroom since this morning about 7:30 or so. I did just put her outside w/ some food and let her off her leash so she could run some. But in about 15 minutes I am going to bring her back in. She hasn't eaten anything and only took a small drink.

| Ok here is my routine. Yes, if she whines RIGHT WHEN you put her in her crate at night (and she has Poo'd and Pee'd, and you know she is comfortable) yes, then ignore her, but I would NOT recommend getting her up in the middle of the night. I would think that would be instilling bad habits if you want her to sleep through the night eventually. My 3.5 month old cried the first few nights (right away after putting him in the crate) for 25 min. the first night, 10 the second and about 2 min. the 3rd night, but from then on.......slept AT LEAST until 5 am.........and now sleeps until we get him up (7am or later on the weekends). Did you say how old this puppy is? Was she getting Pee Pad trained where you got her? I brought my puppy out every 30 min. NO FAIL and still bring him out every 30-45 min and he goes ALMOST every time. You say she isn't drinking or eating much?? How about getting a BULLY STICK or TAIL and let her chew on that to get her thirsty......I guess the more she drinks the more chances at this point to teach her OUTSIDE POTTY?? |

| She is 14 weeks old. I was free feeding then decided that is not helping the potty training situation. So my vet suggestion morning and evening feeding. So that is what I plan to do. Now mind you I just started this today. It is now 3:15 pm and she is yet to do any business outside and she has not soiled her kennel yet either. I do not have food or water in the kennel. I did try to feed her some lunch earlier when we were outside but she didn't eat anything only drank a bit of water. She has whine a couple times in the kennel this afternoon. I let her outside so we can go "potty" but nothing. She just wants to play. She is playing with her toys in her kennel but she wants to play with us and we want to play with her too. I have read that this is how you teach them to go outside, I just feel so bad. Cause so far it is not working for me. If she doesn't go to the bathroom by about 5 I will just put her panies on her and let her play a bit. I feel so bad. Anybody have any suggestions?? Am I doing the crate thing right? I am going from information I got from the vet and from a crate training website.

| Well I thought I was making progress..... She started whining so we took her out and she peed WOO HOO!! 3:52 pm We praised loved and gave treats. Came in and put the diaper on her just in case and by 3:57 we was trying to poop. Now mind you she was outside like 10 minutes before she peed. She wasn't acting interested in doing anything else. As soon as she comes in she tries to poop. I tell her NO firmly and scoop her up, take her diaper off and go outside. We are out side until 4:15 and NOTHING. I put her back in her kennel now. :cry

| Well, the first thing that comes to my mind is, if she hates the grass, is there some pavement she can go on? Dogs can hold it a long time, but I've noticed my girl usually waits about 10 to 15 minutes before she needs to do #2. Maybe if you gave her a bit longer, and had some place with no grass for her to go...........? |

| Chopstix I feel your pain. I am still having the same trouble with Izzy. I was thinking we were doing really good as far as the crate training wet but I realized she is still going in her crate. So yesterday I blocked off a portion of it (I that it was perfect before but apparently not ) Any way I still can't get her to go outside either. I am wondering if her wearing a diaper in the house can hinder the potty training I don't know. Of course I'd rather her pee in her diaper than on my carpet. I just ordered a clicker so maybe if I start clicker training her that will help. I'm not sure. Willing to try just about anything.

| Well this morning she was outside for over an hour. Starts whining at the back door cause she wants to come in. I open the back door and I am calling her so I can put her diaper on her and she squats right in the kitchen. She hadn't made it 3 feet inside the back door before she peed. WHAT THE HECK AM I DOING WRONG

| This is what I'm doing and it's working just fine, sometimes he has accidents but 85% it's working fine. Since he doesn't want to go outside and do his business (sometimes he does), so I got a piece of carpet to reflect the color in my apartment, left the piece of carpet on the hallway and he's been using that ever since. Also he uses his pee pad. It's a work in progress though but so far it has helped a lot. Just an idea for those that want to try something different. Alex |

| I'm glad that is working for you. I don't however want her peeing on carpet cause I think that may confuse her. She does use newspaper when I have her locked up in her part of the kitchen. BUT when she is not locked up its all fair game. She will go anywhere. I honestly don't know what to do. Has anyone tried clicker training for a pup this small (15 weeks)? I tried to get her to come to her name yesterday but she gets to distracted way to easy.

| One other thing that reading the other posts made me think of. Do you use a special word for her when she's going? I took Pip outside in the beginning roughly every hour and a half. I came up with that time by literaly timing how often she had been going on my floor. I found if I followed that schedule, I'd be one step ahead of her little thimble sized bladder! LOL. Anyway, when I'd take her out, I'd say, "outside", and when she'd go, I'd praise her, and give her a treat. There was one time she did just as you and the others are saying, she came inside after being out for 15 minutes, squatted and peed on the floor. I've learned I have to remind her what she's out there for, so I let her sniff for a while, then say my word to her to let her know what's she's supposed to be out there for. Sometimes it's almost comical, because she'll literally get this look on her face like, "oh, yea, I [I]was[B] supposed to do that, wasn't I!" They're like kids, they can get too busy playing and sniffing all the stuff outside, they get distracted from their original reason for being out there, the signal to 'go' is overridden by all the other things outside that are more interesting. Then when you bring them back in, there's no more distractions, the body's signal is not being ignored now, and there ya go! Or I should say, there they go. Now before I bring her in, I always say, "outside' to make sure she didn't forget. I've also progressed with her now where when she starts wanting to go from smell to smell, I tell her NO, and 'outside' and she gets the message and takes care of biz. |

| I do use "potty" with her. But she hasn't really figured it out yet cause yes she is distracted outside. She has now started going on my porch instead of the grass Husband is NOT liking that at all. But we are still trying. I do have her a spot blocked off in my kitchen and when we are not home she is in there. She does use the paper. But when she is out of there she goes anywhere she sees fit. Now when I am not going to be home is it best to put her in the kitchen or put her in her crate? Usually I am only gone and hour or two at most.

| when I first got Chelsea, she spent most of her life in the crate because I had another dog (a beagle) an the vet told me that the two shouldn't have contact until Chelsea had had her shots. (Because my beagle was housetrained). so because of that Chelsea started going in her crate (whereelse would she go?). then i started incoporating wee-wee pads. And ahe did well with those too. sometimes she's miss (in the beginning), but I'd ignore those mistakes and over praise her when she went on her wee-wee pad. As soon as she got that down I started allowing her to travel into other parts of the house, but there was always a wee-wee pad nearby. So with this she has done very well. Still not perfect, but she's doing good. Although you may not want your dog to go in the house, wee-wee pads are a good alternative for little yorkies.
