Treating each dog differently? My 2 dogs are the same age and my female has never had an accident in 3 months! My boy on the other hand is a different story! He goes outside, in the kitchen, dinning room, living room... shall I go on. He is very smart and knows lots of tricks but can't figure out good potty/bad potty. I've tried treats but I can't get him trained he is now 8 mth old and I'm going crazy. My husband said we have to go back to crate training but my girl hates the gate closed and we tried to train her on the crate when we got her (@6mths) but she loves to bark and after 3 weeks of barking we gave up that battle. Is it ok to have one dog in a crate and one dog not? they are both in a bathroom with a baby gate all night with paper and she hits it every time he likes to go in the middle of the floor or behind the toliet. Is it ok to treat one dog differently?

I usually try to treat my dogs the same but sometimes you can't and I don't see there is anything wrong with it. Just make sure your other dogs do not get jealous.

Yorkiesx2, I have 2 yorkies also (brothers, 5 months old). I am having the same problem. Duke is doing a great job in his potty training, and Parker is a horror. He was doing well at first, but now he refuses to go in the potty cage (they are indoor trained) and has been using my entire bedroom as a toilet. I was asking some of the same questions. They are both crated seperately during the day while I am at work. Duke does great in his crate, NEVER has any accidents. Parker, on the other hand, always poops and pees in his crate. I asked if it was okay to keep Duke in his crate during the day (since he is doing so well with it), and try the play pen method with Parker. You know, buy a play pen and keep a bed, a potty area, and his food and water with him. I have not gotten a reply on this yet. I feel like it is unfair to Duke, but I don't want to backtrack on Dukes training.

I tried sprocket in the crate last night and lady was left to rome the bathroom and after he got out this morning they were let outside and the second he came back in he pee'd on the floor! Lady is both trained outside and paper but sprocket just lives for treats so I'm going to have to be following him around the backyard till he goes so I can give him a treat every time not just when I see him... it's a big yard so I'll get my excercise too. Problem is he wants to play when I'm beside him and wants to be alone to go potty. how frusturating! jfunky thanks for the reply I haven't seen your thread sorry. I have been busy building a fence for my yard the last 3 weeks so haven't really seen a computer...

I have the same issue also...I have a male that is perfect he never goes in the house and can hold it if he has to...My female however does not. I have to keep a diaper on her she will wonder off and pee everywhere. She has gotten better about pooing...but when my hubby can't make it home for lunch which is not that often she will poo but not pee in her crate. I don't understand that. My male never poos or pees in his crate. She is very stubborn and not as eager to please as my male. What do you do? Sometimes we cannot come home for lunch does that mean I should leave her gated off? Like I said my husband comes home almost every day for lunch but occasionally he has a lunch meeting. Chris

i dont have two dogs, but it took me a long time to figure toby out.... i coudlnt take him outside because he wasnt "legal" in our apartment complex, so i tried the wee wee pads inside....... well, that didnt go to well......... he went everywhere... i tried the pen method after that...... and he did good UNTILL he found out how to climb out...... SO, now we leave him in the crate (he will NEVER pee in his crate) and when we come home and let him out, he goes out on the balcony and pees on his wee wee pad out there (he is now legal) ....... i think that some dogs dont get the idea that the pad is small, instead of the pad is the whole house.... booting toby's pad outside really made a difference in his training...... he was 80% then went down to 0% (rebellious stage).... and now he is about 99.9%..... <-- this is since we got him to go outside

I gate them both all day 8:30 -4 in the bathroom and also at night when we are sleeping (big bathroom). My female could care less about tricks or treats, he,he. but thank goodness the breeder had her house trained on paper and outside so she was good from the start (6mths) my male we trained and obviously we have a lot to learn! she likes to be clean and he could care less about being clean but still won't go in his crate I thought at this age they would be able to run around the house with supervision. but he always sneeks off. 2 dogs are also hard to supervise when CSI or Survior is on, he, he.
