Belly band question.......please help if you can

My boy is 16 weeks old and no where near potty trained. I attempted the crate training but he whine so much.......I caved in

Instead, I gave him a bedroom. I went placed vinyl carpet covering (clear) and placed about 5 pee pads. He has a more toys than I can count, a beautiful bed, his automatic water feeder, and free kible in his bowl. When I leave.........he, the poodle and cat stay in there and all is fine.

Anyhow, my problem is that he won't pee on his pee pads, nor will he pee on the plastic vinyl. Instead, he pees in the itty bitty bare carpeted spot by the door

As soon as I come home I take them outside.............he will NOT go until he comes back in. I tried the rewarding, and just about everything I have read. He pees everywhere in the house. He pees so much I literally have the steamer parked in the living room.

Someone suggested belly bands (which should arrive soon) and I have no clue how to use them. Do I put it on first thing in the morning? Leave it on when I leave? Strap it on when I arrive?

I am to the point of no return..........please help me. What else should I learn or attempt? I have sprayed on a special spray for dogs to "stay off", special carpet shampoos to remove the smell, etc

P.S. Winters here are harsh and my toy poodle never goes outside then. She is 100% bathtub trained. She pees and poos in the bath tub and I just pick up and flush the poo and rinse the pee with clorox

However, my guy is so tiny he cannot even begin to reach the tub (so it's out of the question).

Sorry, I don't have any advise for you. I just wanted to say that I'm sorry you are having such a difficult time with your little guy. Hope things start working out better for you.

First off , for your room: I do the same thing. My office turned into the "puppy" room so I went and bought a peice of linolium and layed it over the carpet. Now it doesn't cover the WHOLE carpet, including the spot right in front of the door, which like yours, turned into the favorite spot to go. So now what I do is cover all the bare carpet spots with pee pads. I use clear packing tape and tape it to the carpet!!! It works!!! My puppy I kept still pees "on the pee pad" in front of the door. (just be careful when you come in ) Its more work, but it'll save your carpet.

Belly bands!!! My saviour! My male is also my stud so he wears his belly band whenever we are home the WHOLE time. I just change them like a diaper, like every 3 hours. When we are at work he's kenneled, but other than that he gets free run of the house with his belly band. I LOVE THEM!

I also wanted to add that if you find a pee accident soak it up with a pee padd and use it on the floor and he should smell his pee on it and use it.

Unfortunatley the belly bands don't really house train them but they do save your carpet!!! My poor Brodie would never leave a gated area if it wasn't for belly bands. He lifts his leg on EVERYTHING. My mom was visiting and she laid her coat on the back of the couch and he jumped up there and lifted his leg on her coat! He had his belly band on though so nothing happened but I couldn't believe it!

So don't feel bad, we all have our little trouble makers Trust me...you'll LOVE belly bands. No more pee! OH! Just an occasional tootsi roll to pick up here and there LOL!

I think I agree. I have 4 girls and two boys. Not saying all the girls are pottied trained completely but the boys are NOT! My pug (female) gets free rome of the house all day everyday, no accidents, ever!

Well, I am thrilled to start him on the belly bands now. Hopefully someday he won't need them.

I would not use thumb tacks -- what if they pull up the pads and the thumb tacks come out? I would be too afraid they might swallow one.

Jessy, I feel the same way about boys being more difficult to train. Tiger will always wear a band whenever he roams free. . . and he does only when I am home and can supervise. It works well for both of us. He is happy when he gets to roam free whilst I am worry free he will not mark everywhere. I rarely see him mark these last few months but I dare not take them off . . . when I am at work, he is in a crate without a band as he never soils his bedding - EVER

I really think this is my next approach. I spend lots of time with him but in an instant he pees.........lol

I have some of Des' belly bands and they are great. Just don't order them too big or small like I do. LOL One day I will get the right size. LOL

Alphy does great when I am home without one. I take him out about every 3 to 4 hours. No pp accidents. He does like to poo in my bathroom and laundry room though. Now if I could train my kids to take him out when I'm gone.

Anyway, back on point. Alphy has free roam of the house and wears a belly band when I am gone. When I get home at night he goes out and then runs free. I need to work on getting him to tell me he has to go potty. I just take him out so... When I go to bed I put him in one also. Only because he's so up and down all night. More times then not he tinkles in the middle of the night.

You'll love belly bands. Totally saves your carpet. Good luck.

That is so funny.I have never heard of a dog doing this.It's just a funny picture i have in my head.Hope all works out for the little guy!

My little guy never pees in the kitchen where he is confined when I go to work (and this is for 6 or 7 hours)...

Also - he never pees during the night.

He doesn't pee in the early part of the evening because I take him out every couple of hours.

But later in the evening when I'm busy and tried of going outside all the time - I put a bellyband on him -- and he will wet it once or twice during the evening. But he has free run of the house - and with the bellyband on, he does no damage, and I can relax and not have to worry about him. I check it often and if it's the slightest bit damp, I change it.

Also - he's 14 months old and he has never slept without a belly band -- even though he almost never wets at night. I put one on "just in case."

He only wears bellybands when I'm home with him. I think leaving one on him for a prolonged period of time when you're gone - might cause him to get a diaper rash - if it's wet all day - after day - after day.....
