| Accidents! Hi everyone! For those of you who don't know, I have two yorkie girls. I have had Trixie since she was about 4 mths and training was a headache but for the most part she is trained. I bought a litter box from petsmart and place pads in it for her to use. 95% of the time she hops right in and does her business and everything is good. Sometimes I think she gets in a hurry and walks out before she is completely done peeing (never poo) and pee ends up out of the box. For this reason I have a plastic mat there to prevent it from going on the carept. I'd really like for this not to happen because I worry over her stepping in the pee on the plastic when I'm not here but since its very seldom I can deal with it. My true problem is with my other girl Pia. I got Pia when she was about 1 yr. old. Most of the time she will pee in the box (accident here and there) but for whatever reason she doesn't like pooping in the box. She does when she feels like it. Usually some is in and some is out. I am going nuts with her and really getting grossed out. Thank goodness its hard and I can pick it up easily. I just don't know what else to do to make her poop in there like she does pee. It's so strange to me that she'll do one and not the other?? When I see her pooping I stop her and take her to the box or if I missed her I take her and the poop to the box. She knows she did wrong but still continues this. Any help would really be appreciated. I have food out 24/7 and I'm thinking a scedule might be better for her?? This way I'd know its coming, LOL. However, she is just 2 lbs. and I worry to death when I'm not here and think food needs left out for both of them. I worry alot of the their sugar getting too low. Maybe I am being way to paranoid but when Pia was fixed I went through hell and almost lost her. She was throwing up and yes I took her to the vet (long story) he ended up neglecting her and by that night she went into shock because of the suagr level being so low. I know it had alot to do with all the throwing up and ugly D. but since then I'm so paranoid and even get up still in the middle of the night to make sure she is ok. She eats like a piggy but the thought of taking the food up makes me nervous. As long as their both eating and drinking I feel good. So I guess I'm also asking how long can these guys go without food? Since they've always had food out I am completely lost? Thanks for any help guys |

| When Chachi had diahrea the vet would tell me to fast him 24 hrs but said thats the longest you can fast a yorkie because they are so small. After I fast him I always feed him chicken and rice which is good to feed when they are vomitin or have diahrea

| Hi, she is fine now. She got sick after the surgery. I was more or less wondering how long they can go without eating? My pekingese eats twice a day. Once in the morning and then in the afternoon. My two yorkies eat off and on all day. I was thinking of feeding them more on a schedule but was paranoid after what happened with Pia. Also, any tips to make her poo in the box would be great!! |

| Baloo was the same way about pooing and peeing in the same place...he just doesn't like to do it. Eventually my hubby and I put half of the pee pad in a box, the box was on its side and big enough that he could squat in without hitting his head, and the other half of the pee pad went on linoleum. This way he could hide in the box since his big issue was with privacy. Not only does he not like going poop where he pees, but he was extremely shy about pooping in front of people! lol...Now we don't need the box for him to hide in and he uses his pee pad for both. We also helped fix this problem by setting up his crate and pee pad right next to each other at night. He sleeps in his crate so he hates eliminating in there and will hop out right onto the pad and do his business. We didn't give him the option of pooping anywhere else which I think helped establish that this pad was for both. Occasionally he will still poop somewhere in a corner and not on the pad though. We're working on that ...Goodluck and I hope you find something that works for you |

| Crystal has used the litter box from day 1 with us. However we use the Purina litter, not pads. It is my feeling that the litter dries to the touch and disperses the smell better than pads which makes it more appealing too her. We bought two of them to put in different parts of the house for her convenience. She decided though that she only wanted to "go" in the kitchen/pantry area where she was originally trained. We moved the other one to that general area and have found that she prefers one for pee and the other for poo. With two dogs there may be an issue of too many smells in the same box. If you like the box (we love it) you may want to think about getting a second so that each dog has its own. Try the Purina litter too, it's not messy like cat litter and lasts quite a while. good luck. |

| Minnie will always pee on her pad but if the pad is to wet (in the morning) she will poop on the floor in front of the pad just a thought. By the way I change pad in morning before my morning coffee most days. lol

| hey i have the same concern as Dina_Nichole, princess is 7 months and chewacca aka chewie is 4 months, they poop all over the carpet, i used pads with the training odor spray and without the training odor spray, used newspaper with the spray and without, but everytime i get home i see pieces of newspaper or pad all over the apt, seem they play with it instead of doing their bussiness there, so i was also thinking if its ok to leave them in the apt without food, i work from 8am to 5pm, i was leaving them in the bathroom but they ripped all the wallpaper, so i can't leave them there anymore, they are terrible but i can't leave them in a cage either, they start crying and i can't stand it cuz it breaks my heart......any advice is appreciate it......

| Just an update!! I think I know what the problem was. As you know I have 2 girls and the one was having accidents alot. I think both of them using the litter box (even though the biggest one) was still too small. I now have a tray (approx 2x4 feet) I put a long pee pad to cover the entire thing and I havent had an accidnet since I know that seems big to have around but its not as big as you think. Having two girls leaves me no choice but to do this. They are tramping right up on the tray with no problems at all. I"M SO HAPPY!! |
