Default Best Treats

Ok at night (to remove plaque from the day) I use "Talk to me "Treats Dental care & fresh breath/low fat great taste made by Booda, I buy mine at PetSmart in a canister & leave it by their night table.

During the day (whole) or as a training treat I use Pedigree TRAINER - bite size training treats.......... I believe these are meant to give whole as a training treat to larger dogs BUT BOTH bones are cute & I like cute things for Chloe & Sissy. The dental/breath ones are a hard bone 3/4 inch long if that... The training treats are also 3/4 inch long and are a soft texture.

My 2 love both of these best and the training treat I use in 8 pcs as o they get a smidge and beg for more, therefore do what I want them to, in order to get more. Chloe hates her nails cut - she gets a full 1/2 after nail trimming, yesterday I started Sissy on 1/4 of the soft one IF she doesn't go off the porch.

Try both, I will give you a money back guarantee if they don't love them!

oops The Pedigree training treats are so easy to get, Farmer Jacks is my grocery store here. They are right in the dog food aisle with treats.

OK I tried it, leaving the leash on when we are on the porch (I used a little light one - not our walking one) I felt safer. I also used tiny pcs of treats starting last night. Between the both I think we both felt better BUT she did run off the porch when we first went out, I know now it was a game with her. She ran around my car twice, looked at me, then right up on the porch. I put her inside (leash still on) and let her watch Chloe & me sitting out there for about 2 minutes, then asked her if she'd like to come back out. She didn't run off the 2nd trip and that's when I used the tiny pcs of treat. I think we're on a roll

Kacee has never been much of a thief. She is at times, but not very often. Now, Muffin was a different story! She loved to steal things just for the fun of it. However, she had a stuffed doggie that she loved. So, whenever she "stole" something, I would just pick up her stuffed doggie and she would drop whatever it was she had in her mouth. It worked all of her life, because she had that doggie all of her life.

Oh, he'll definitely get the idea!

Put him on a leash and walk with him. Then start to run backward, calling him in an excited voice. He'll turn around and run straight for you. Make him sit when he arrives at your feet. Then praise and pet him with a lot of enthusiasm. Do this a few times in a row a few times a day.

Demi learned this with hardly any training at all. I think it's because she's so owner-focused, and I'll bet your dog is too.

Wink Harness help!

[quote=Pattie]I'm starting the leash thing that you do at bedtime today, again this morning Sissy got out of her collar and ran toward the street. My problem isn't at bedtime, it is when we go out to my porch. She is double jointed and gets out of her collar and harness but if I leave the leash dragging, then it will be easier to catch her. The vet told me 2 fingers under the collar/right now we are down to one finger under. I am afraid to go tighter but one finger under she still gets it off. Chloe never even tried to get out of either the collar or harness - she was just happy to put them on knowing it meant to go out. Today was better then yesterday tho, she never entered the street. Right before reaching it, she turned and ran back toward my front grass and I do think at this point it is a game to her and I also thinks she wants Chloe to follow her but Chloe won't. I can't help but believe I have one Yorkie and one Yorkshire Terrorist

Chewy is only 3 pounds now, I have not found a harness that fits him well... But I found that if he has a tee shirt on his harness stays on better... it doesn't slip around as much. He has never gotten out of his hearness but it gets twisted and turned around on him all the time. I am loving his tiny little body but can't wait to see him get a bit bigger at the same time! I know I'll miss his puppy stages when he's bigger!

thanks for the harness ideas but unfortunately we tried 3 different kinds, I think my problem is that Sissy is double jointed, Chloe never was but my Happy news is that LuvMySissy has turned me onto the harness dresses. IT WORKS and Sissy can't get out of it So again this morning we sat on the porch, harness dress attached to the light leash, when she went to run, I was ready, foot on the leash and wala, she gave me the dirtiest look but came back up the step! She'll get the idea. When the maillady came, her poor little body shook like a nervous little girl BUT she did not run down, the mail lady was very impressed with her improvement. Chloe just sat and watched all this Chloe is extremely well behaved. Sissy will be one day too maybe..........

I ordered a really cute blue jean harness dress for Daisy on ChloeBella.com. It is a blue jean top with a cherry print on the bottom. I wanted a matching harness vest for my boy so she made the "Miami Vice" vest for me in fabric to match Daisy's dress. They are so cute and so well made. Jodi is on vacation now until Sep 8, but you can order after she comes back. It is worth checking out her adorable outfits. Jodi is also a member of YT.

To start say nothing except to focus on the piece of food you want him to notice and go for. Eventually work up to telling him to drop it but offer a piece of something real tasty at the same time. Work up to 'drop it' without offering a treat and give him a treat after the item is retrieved.

I'm sorry, but IMO this would only encourage more bad behavior. Food is a reward and should not be given as a bribe.

I'd start some obedience training, so he learns to come on command or to sit and stay so yhou can get to him. Leaving theleash on is a good suggestion.

The thing is to work with him in a controled environment. You can teach him to bring you things for a reward, but should not be bribed. He only gets the reward if he brings it to you and gives it up willingly.

Default Chase

I made a terrible mistake of running around with my little Tony after he used his potty pad, I would get really excited and say "good boy" and start running around the room with him... Well he has missed quite a few times since then and after he does it he takes off with no time for me to reprimand him for the "naughty" behavior.
back to square one...

I do agree with you for the most part. Usually, the food treat shouldn't be evident until the behavior is performed.

The exceptions, in my opinion, are when teaching "leave it" and "drop it". The easiest way to teach those, IMHO, are with a bait and switch method: give them something better than what they already have. In both cases, however, as soon as the pup shows a little understanding of the cue, you want to drop the bribe (& instead give it as a reward).

Yes they make harness vests for boy babies THE CHLOE BELLA PET BOUTIQUE but she is on vacation until next week Sept 9th I think (and this isn't my Chloe just to let you know ha ha) I got all the links from LuvMySissy.... I do not know how to send links yet but it is Donating Members who own the sites where you can buy pretty and handsome things for our babies. Look under the forums for things for sale for yorkies, there are many other companies but I liked a certain dress that would be great for a dinner party we are going to from this site. Kristen's Kreation is another great one. If you can't find all of them in the front of the forum, maybe PM LuvMySissy and ask her (Sorry I am still too new on the computer)
