I appreciate any response I have a 9 month old yorkie mix. heres the stroy: Rocco is a little bigger than normal yorkies because he is a mix and i know he can hold in whatever has to come out. When he sleeps in the crate he goes in there the next morning. When he sleeps with me in the bed he holds it until noon the next morning. Also we have bells hanging by the door and everytimje we take him out we let him ring them and now he does with us by him. He wont use them by himself. He sometimes runs to his crate and poops in there. We bought a divider for the crate and minimized the space. If anyone has a quick, easy training method PLEASE LET ME KNOW I APPRECIATE ANYTHING. anything that has worked for you guys and didnt take to long. Rocco knows obedience commands which i trainded him myself and listens everytime. He just wont get potty trainded. ive tried everything. Also i can only get him to go pee-pee outside. My previous dog would do poop and pee on command but rocco doesnt seem to understand. I havnt given up yet! But need the help and answers. Thanks everybody!

I just wanted to reply to your post to let you know that you are not alone. I have my own personal housetraining techniques that really work, however it is a 24/7 job for several weeks. Basically you must get to know your dog and learn his body language. When he "tells" you that he needs to go potty, then you head towards the door, call him and do the bell thing (since you are training with the bells). You cannot EVER slack off during the training period. That means if the most exciting part of your favorite TV show comes on and Rocco needs out, then you go right then, not in two minutes. Being consistent in this way pays off in the end. Often times Yorkies will train you to take them outside for playtime. What I do is take my crew out on a leash. They have a "potty" area outside and a "play" area. They go to the potty area first, after busines is taken care of then they have an opportunity to have some play time. About 5 minutes of playtime reinforces the fact that going outside means potty first and then PLAY PLAY PLAY!

I'm with you on the "don't feel you are alone". I never did have any luck crate training Rockie. Maybe it's in the name but he's as stubborn as they get and let me know early on that no matter the size of his crate if I insisted on putting him in there for any length of time he would reward me with pottying in the crate and then rolling around in it since it was only big enough to stand and turn around in. Not a pretty sight let me tell you. I ended up taking him out around the time I knew he would need to go (by making sure that I regulated his meal times--no free feed and no water late in the evening (ice if it was hot), and then when I took him out I would tell him to "go potty" and if he did--and when he did I would make sure to say "good jog going potty" and give him a treat and praise. I still struggle with the pooping. For the most part he goes outside but now and then he will poop on this chair I have up by the window that he sit in a lot--I don't know why. I simply remove it and spray the area with the stuff that supposed to make them not want to go there again (he defies the odds most of the time). But, at least it's not urine. I hope we get to the point that it's not an issue anymore and he's only 8 months old so I think it's possible. You'll get there as well and then you'll be adding your two cents to the next person who is feeling desperate. Good luck!! This is such a fantastic website--I don't know if I could have gotten through some of my puppie issues without the expertise of this group!!
