| She hates her crate! I know you are suppossed to make the crate a den and I try. She has her toys in there and a little stuffed thing she sleeps with but she hates to be in her crate. She cries because she wants out of it. She only goes in there at night and when we are gone. So if she hates it will she still not pee in it? I really don't think she really goes in there. She doesn't poop in there and I have found like 2 pee pee accidents. |

| How old is she? Maybe she's not used to it yet...if she's older and never went in it, I dont think she ever will like it. |

| Is it possible to leave her in a larger area, like an x-pen, or a bathroom or laundry area. Ollie cried every night for a week, I finally gave up and took the door off of her crate, and put it in the laundry area, with a pee pad. she did fine with the door off. Now I have two yorkies, and put them in the crate together and close the door. I plan to breed, so they need to get used to being penned up. I'm not sure how well it will go over when I put them in separate crates. |

| We got her at 4 months and now she is 6 months. I figured she would pee or poop in a big area like a bathroom. |

| Do you reward her for going in there? Loki ALWAYS gets a treat for going in his crate. All I have to say is "Loki crate" from anywhere in the house and he bolts to his crate. Sometimes he sits in it and looks at me "asking" for a treat! HA! But the key is to reward for short periods of time too. Don't always put her in there and then leave for 3 hours. Sometimes you need to put her in there for 5 minutes, say while you are getting the mail or cooking dinner. That way they don't associate the crate with being alone for hours. Also, make sure she is REALLY tired and completely empty before you put her in there, even at night. Try taking a long walk first. That way she will sleep! The key to crate training is that the dogs will usually curl up and fall asleep! ALSO TRY KONGS!! Only give a kong when she's in the crate. She will associate the crate with the best treat in the world and spend 20 minutes licking the Kong and won't realize you're gone! At night is the crate in an area where she can see you? When we were crate-training we had a crate downstairs and in our bedroom. Loki slept in the one in our bedroom at night, both so he could see us but so that I could hear him when he cried so that I could take him outside. (He learned to "knock" on his crate to be let outside!) I quickly learned the difference between, "I don't want to be in here" and "I HAVE TO PEE!" cries. We let him out at least once in the middle of the night until he was about 6-7 months old, but he also had medical issues. But after letting him out, he got his treat for going out and then went right back in the crate. No playtime at 2am! The funniest thing is that now he sleeps through the night and he will give me the evil eye if I turn the light on and disturb him.

| Hi, Hailey hates her crate as well. She whines and cries everytime i put her in there, she wants to be around me all the time. She'd rather lay on the carpet to take a nap than go in there! So now the only times i use the crate is when i am out of the house and at night. |

| I never thought of giving her a treat when she goes in. Won't that make her have to poop? I will certainly try it. It is in the bedroom so she sees us at night and she doesn't cry during the night unless she needs to go out and that is RARELY. Sometimes I put her in there when I take a nap and she does OK. I just don't know if she will ever get in there voluntarily! I will certainly try these suggestions though! |

| A crate is a " den" ,a sheltered and secured place your puppy can call her own.Dogs typically will not soil their space. However, there are exceptions to this rule.As suggested earlier, try giving her a bit of treat for going in(no, it won't make her poop,) and if she stays for a while without whining(do it gradually though, a little more each time) reward her again for being good before you let her out. With time she will learn how to "hold it" and she won't potty in the crate.Hailey only had one accident in the crate but it was my fault because I ignored her crying one night and she had to go potty. Now she can "hold it" for up to 7 hours(that's the longest time i was away from home) and she's a little over 5 months old! When i am out of the house, i always try to not live her in there for too long, she's my thought!!!!! Also, very important...........Never use the crate as punishment. It should be a happy place for her.Good luck |

| Scooter hated his crate too at first, but now he'll even climb in it to take a nap! I used to hide tiny treats in there for him to find. Scooter has only had 2 accidents in his crate ever, but I stick to a strict feeding schedule and I think that helps a lot. I also don't feed him anything with a lot of dyes or other things that can be diuretics.
