Scooter hated his crate too at first, but now he'll even climb in it to take a nap! I used to hide tiny treats in there for him to find.
Scooter has only had 2 accidents in his crate ever, but I stick to a strict feeding schedule and I think that helps a lot. I also don't feed him anything with a lot of dyes or other things that can be diuretics.
