| help with potty training outside Hi, i am new to this forum. My puppy Hailey she's 5 months old now and she's my first dog ever so i am completely new to this whole dog thing.I've only had her for 3 weeks and she's now almost fully paper trained. I recently started taking her outside for walks(she did not have all her shots) but now i would like her to get the habit of doing her business ouside. What's the best way to gradually convert her from the papers to go outside?I live in an apartment complex.Thank you in advance |

| Welcome to YT. Mine go both outside, and on pee pads. I'm not sure how to break them from the pee pads. Living in an apartment you might find it handy to let her continue to use the paper or pads. I put my pads in a shallow under the bed storage container, and it works really well. |

| You can gradually move the pad closer and closer to the door and one day place the pad right outside the door. Then gradually move the pad from right outside the door to the grass. You can also just leave the pad put in your apartment and just start taking her out every 2 hours and right after she eats. Also watch her and if she ever looks like she needs to use the bathroom (sniffing around), then just take her outside. Sometimes it can be confusing for dogs to be taught to use pee pad AND outside. But with patience and consistency, I am sure it can be done. I have always just taught mine to go potty outside, so I probably can't give the best advice. Maybe someone else on YT has had this same experience as you and can give better info. You also may want to do a simple search for "potty training" or "outside" or something like that. This subject has been brought up several times, so I am sure there is some good info on YT that has already been posted. GOOD LUCK! By the way, Welcome to YorkieTalk! |

After she eats, take her outside until she does her business, then reward her. Maybe even try putting the potty pads outside? I've always trained my dogs outside, and I heard once their trained one way it's hard to break them of that. Rocky's trained outside, but one day we put a potty pad out and he went on it. He won't poop on them, but he will pee on them and outside. | |
