| Do you all think it would be easier to pee pad train first or outside train first? |

| My advice is to pick a method and stick with it. I don't think you can do both pee pad AND outdoor and have them fully trained. In my opinion a dog is fully potty trained outside when THEY let YOU know they have to go by whatever method you choose i.e. barking, bells on the door..whatever. People say their dogs are trained to go on the potty pads AND outdoors but to be honest I don't buy it. I think what's happening is they use the potty pads and whenever they are taken outside for a walk or fresh air or whatever they happen to pee or poop. The owner assumes they are both trained indoors AND outdoors when they do this but I don't agree. If you have potty pads AND you say yout dog is outdoor trained how do they know which to use....outdoors or pee pads and how do they let you know..it doesn't make sense. |

| Crystal, this is exactly what I wanted to do. I leave a pee pad down in the bathroom but would like to pick it up when company is here. The problem is...if the door is closed or there is no pad down...he will still go in the bathroom and not "ask". How do you get them to "ask" to "go"?? Now he is really smart. He will "go" on command. If I take him to someone's bathroom at another house and sa "go pee", he goes. Also, if there is a pad down...he knows he can go on it but if it is not there...he knows he can't. It is only in the bathroom that he will go anywhere or if he doesn't see a pad, he will find a place to go. suz Quote:
