| Potty Training I got Bella when she was 8 weeks old, and now she is 8 months. I haven't been able to get her potty trained. I feel like I've tried everything. I take her outside all the time, I give her praise and treats when she goes. However, half the time she won't go on the grass, I'll put her there and she'll walk onto the concrete and pee or poo. Do I praise her for not going on the grass since she went outside? I'm running out of ideas because she still goes in the house, and doesn't really let me know when she has to go. She also goes in her crate sometimes, so I don't think she is really crate trained. I need help! |

| Yes, I think praise for outside is warrented, even if on the concrete. Is your grass kept short? My girl doesn't like to go on the grass if long and wet. Do you use a potty phrase? I use 'Outside' and 'Go toilet'. She is beginning to scratch at the door to go out. Steam clean your carpets to get rid of any lingering scent and just take her out often.Make sure she goes before bed and clean all bedding well. My girl is just getting it now at 7 1/2 months--still hard if it rains a lot!! Persevere. Good luck.

| I think outside, anywhere, is just great. On concrete, your clean-up is going to be a lot easier. Poos are so much more "pickupable", unlike in grass if you let it grow just a bit too long. PLUS you can wash down/disinfect concrete and lessens the chances of your dog picking up mites, sticky seeds etc Last edited by Lorrie; 06-12-2006 at 03:23 AM. |
