I am neutering my puppy tomorrow morning but I'm also thinking about using bellyband now that he's been marking recently. How long do you have to use them for? Until they're trained? Or are you using them indefinitely? I don't want him to have to wear one forever.

| ![]() I had my yorkie neutered at my vets for $35. The stitches were on the inside, so he didn't bother them. He was eager to leave within a few hours of having it done. He was his same old self the next day. My chi was also $35 for his neuter plus the vet clipped his nails. He had the same stitches and was even more eager to come home and was back to his old self the next day also. ![]()

Did your pups go home on Pain meds? Mine is still a bit drowsy unfortunately and I have to give him pain meds twice a day.

| ![]() I personally would never use a vet that charged me less then $150 for a spay or neuter. I would wonder what corners they were cutting - blood work, anesthesia protocols, or pain meds.

| ![]() Including bloodwork, pain medication, one month supply of flea & tick and heartworm prevention. My vet charged me $573.39 and that was with a regular client discount. lol |

The CA vets I have asked are quoting $500-600 for a spay. I knew it would be expensive, but I was shocked at the price! The local humane society does it for $110-$170. But, something so inexpensive given the rates of private vets in the area makes me nervous, especially as I would imagine there is greater risk for surgery in a tiny yorkie (calculating proper amounts of anesthesia to use, etc).

| ![]() Yes, my daughter found a place that do the surgery for like $50, but I didn't want to take a chance with my baby, especially with the anesthesia and the risks being higher with Yorkies and me being paranoid, not knowing what to expect. I prefer to make a sacrifice and pay the big bucks and have it done by my vet. who has been seeing my baby since I got him at 9 1/2 weeks. |

| ![]() Gizmo was neutered 2 weeks ago and it cost me $75 and that included the take home meds. I found the low cost pet clinic through the ASCPA's website and they were great. They called me the day after which was a Friday and then on Monday to check on him. ![]() |

![]() All the worry and myths that go around about anesthesia and surgery are just that....myths and IMO an excuse not to spend the money to alter your pet.

| ![]() I paid around 350 for Bailey to get spayed. I could have gotten it done cheaper however, taking her to a vet I trust with her is worth the extra money. |

| ![]() I'm guessing it varies depending on where you live. I live in CA., my vet quoted me close to $400.00. I looked around for a low cost spay/neuter clinic. I of course did research and made sure they had a good reputation. Everything is al a carte at low cost clinics which is why I believe it is cheaper. The neuter was $80.00 plus pain meds are mandatory and cost an extra $20.00 bringing you up to $100.00. I don't know why they don't include pain meds in the basic price since it's mandatory. Why wouldn't anyone want to buy the pain meds? I also purchased pre op blood work. They contacted me saying that he needed two tooth extractions, which I also had to purchase antibiotics for. After everything I ended up paying about $240 or $260 for neuter, blood work, pain meds, 2 tooth extractions, and antibiotics for the extractions. Still cheaper than what my vet quoted me. Look around for low cost spay/neuter clinics and do your homework. If you're okay with just the basic procedure plus pain meds, you can get out of there paying under $200. Hopefully no tooth extractions are needed and nothing goes wrong. It seems like tooth extractions are very common and best to do when they're being neutered or spayed. Having pets is expensive. |

YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() I just had Tatiana spayed and it cost $155. That included a full blood panel, pain meds. And the spay. I took her home at the end of the day. We live in Iowa. Tatiana is tiny and did very well!
