| my fear realized: my cat hates my new dog i introduced my new yorkie to his "sister" (egyptian mou cat of exceptional demeanor, never seen her upset she is almost like human, well behaved, lovely and very loving even to strangers) but hell, when she saw this dog she was mad. i tried introduucing them this is what happened: they came near each other and she made a noise that sounded like a roar, opened her mouth and swoed her big teeth (even i didnt know they were that big) whenever he comes near she gets to be twice the size and all her hair stands up. she keeps "roaring" and my poor dog appears ignorant to the whole thing because he keeps going to see her. after an hour of that, he chased her, my husband tells me not to interfere, and to let them sort it out but i am so afraid she will hurt him because she is twice his size. what can i do now? is there anything i can teach the dog, i dont think he chases her for sport but to get to know her... am i crazy? will she get over it? what should i do in the meantime? i dont dare leave them alone for one second!!! |

| I wouldnt leave them unattended in the same room! She will get over it, it takes time for them to get used to each other. You puppy is still a baby, probably all he is wanting, is some playtime There are many people on this board that have cats and dogs, i'm sure someone will be able to advice you better on this. Good luck i'm sure all will be fine Enjoy your new baby!

| thanks, well i am not sure he is still a baby, he is one year old on friday (the quarentene period took over 6 months so i couldnt bring him sooner) but i really dont feel he is being mean to the cat, even though he did barked at her yesterday, and he kept going back to her space i dont know why i think he is curious.... i dont see him trying to attack her, he only ran after her once. i think i will have to do what my husband sais and "leave them to sourt it out" but is very scary, the cat is even mad at me because i smell like the dog and i dont dare pet her..... |

| I promise it will get better. I had the same problem a few months ago when I brought Lady home. I had also posted the same question as you. I had the same problems, Jager would growl at Lady all the time and even went to swat at her a few times and he isn't declawed. It will take some time, Jager (my cat) is finally learning to accept Lady, but I still do not trust them alone together. My best advise for you, from what I did. I had Lady in the kitchen behind a gate and Jager had the run of the house, in time Jager started going over there and just checking everything out. This way the cat can get used to the dog without the dog being right in the cats face. Then from time to time let them out together BUT really watch them, this is what we did and finally now everyone is getting along, though Lady does still annoy Jager from time to time, but shes learning cause when he goes to chase her she'll run and hide under the couch. Jagers is a lot bigger then her. Its all about time and patience. |

| It will just take time. I have one yorkie that aggrivates my cat by barking at her so my cat will probably never get along with her. She will eat out of the same bowl as Chachi at the same time though. He never barks at her so she is threatened by him

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Chasing The chasing is just his way of trying to get her to play with him. Lex and April now take turns chasing each other...she even taunts him so he can chase her. At times she climbs up on the sofa just out of his reach and will reach down and swat him on the head and run back and forth on the sofa to get him to chase her. I am going to check previous posts and get the pictures of them playing so you can see. Here is the link to that post where I put up pictures of them playing...it's the last post on that thread. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...t=royal+rumble

| this makes me feel much better, i hope i will get to put photos of them playing!! one day!!! i am concern because she hasnt eaten anything today, my agapi (dog) doesnt even seem aware of her maybe he thinks thats how she is, he certaintly doesnt appear scared of her at all! i am at the moment keeping her in the guest bedroom with the doors open and he in mine... see how that goes, i also got those perfumes you hook up to the outlet (like airfreshners) to "help calm them" thats what the vet said.... |

| It takes time, sometimes A lot of time,, Bailey and my cat have been housemates for 2 years, and they still don't like each other.. They have their moments when they play, few and far between, within the last 6 months they have found neutral ground.. the couch and the bed, that's it,anywhere else .. it is ON! But it's funny if Bailey yips or whines the cat comes to check on him,and if the cat is outside and their is a " cat fight" going on, he spring to action to help his cat brother, even flys out in the yard to chase any unwanted preditors away.

| ha ha ha when we first got our other dog, Chloe who's a medium sized chow, lab and everything else mix our cats hated her now her and our 1 cat Blossom get along SO well they are SERIOUSLY best friends they give eachother kisses and cuddle. I'm sure the cat will get used to the puppy but jsut think how you'd feel! "WHY ON EARTH DID YOU BRING THAT HYPER RAT IN THIS HOUSE?!!!" lol cats adapt easily and are very tolerable! just let them be alone a bit, but watch them so the cat doesn't hurt your baby and also that your baby doesn't hurt the cat! |

| I dont think my Tootie and "Me-Kitty" will ever be friends, but they have learned to tolerate each other... Tootie just cannot resist tho, so the cat has learned to live high.... up on chairs, table, counter... wherever he can but he taunts the puppy and thay have managed to work it out... d

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Kitty will adjust and puppy will probably get swatted a time or two. We have three cats. One tolerants Ramsey, one dispeases her...and the youngest one actually plays with her, but only if the other cats aren't around to see him fraternizing with the enemy.

| Can't we all just get along!! So sorry to hear about your family feud. I have a similar problem... I had my kitty first, when I brought diggs home (that's my yorkies name) my kitty was preggers! She had her babies 2 weeks later Now she HATES my Diggs. He wants to be friends and get to know the babies, Momma says NO WAY. She has gone after him (teeth nashing, fur flying) on several occasions. I try very hard to keep them seperated but he is very persistant!!! I am hoping that someday they will learn to tolerate each other but I highly doubt it. Good Luck, Diggs' mommy |
