Pretty much...you know whats funny...Dolce was crying...so I take him out his crate and now he is asleep on my lap...but my 14 y/o schnauzer rarely wanted to sleep in my bed...he always prefered his dog beds. Their would be times I would come home from school/work and I would catch him asleep on my bed...but rarely did he willingly want to sleep in my bed...But Dolce...he is all over the bed, my neck and everywhere else when he does sleep with me...too cute!

Oh boy, Dolce. That must be tough to hear barking at 4am. I'm glad I didn't have to put up with that!

Now...he went straight to sleep no more than 5 min. in my lap...what is your take on putting a article of my clothing in his crate with him...maybe it will stop the crying at night...maybe put a warm bottle inside my shirt and lay him on that in the crate???

Hi Dolce - I read you post and it rang a bell with me. My Lexi did the same thing when we first brought her home. I spoke with a few friends that are well seasoned dog owners, they suggested that I should try confining her 'roaming' area to a smaller space. I did just that. I penned off the kitchen area and that is the only area she was allowed to roam in freely when out of her crate. I put the pad in plain site, took her to it every time I took her out of the crate and it worked. Not overnight but within one week at least. Apparently by my letting her have free reign of the house she thought she could do whatever she wanted. She has had a couple of boo-boos since then but only if the pad was moved or she felt it wasn't clean enough for her. Good luck to you and your baby - it will all work out.

Thank you...I am definately going to pick up a childs divider and give him some additional space along with his crate///I am hoping this will work for him at night as well. Since I came home to MD to visit, he has been very off with his pad. I assume bec. of the transition so soon.

Hello Dolce. I am sorry to hear that you having a few problems with your baby. But please be patient with them. Everybody here has given you such great advise. But remember, they all have their own personalitites. What works for me may not work for you. You will find a way to get him to eat and go potty all in time. Try to stay calm and not be frustrated. He may sense that in you and there for making him nervous! There were sooooo many times I wanted to pull my hair out or his!!! By giving him only a amall place to roam also worked great for me. Like Yourkierule said!!! Dolce--stay positive and Luigi sends you both lots of love & kisses!!!! Mandy & Luigi

Dolce, I'm not sure how big your crate is but dogs usually will not go where they sleep. So perhaps your puppy is confused with the pad being in his crate and he got use to it and doesn't realize he need to go on the pad outside the crate because he associates it with where he sleeps.???? Also, if your puppy is confined most of the day without being able to play he may wake and want to play more at night. I use a gate on the bathroom with pee pad and lots of toys or pig ears for him to chew. Also i don't leave food down all the time for the puppies i know some people may not agree with this but i feed them two times a day 6pm and 6am. This has them on a schedule of sleeping, eating and going potty. Just try things and see what works best for your puppy. If you start putting your puppy in bed with you they will want to do that. If this is something you don't want to do. Try putting the crate by your bed with an old shirt of yours in it. If the puppy wakes and cries put your hand down by the crate and just say No... Good luck it does take a lot of time but the rewards will be wonderful.

Well...today I went out and purchased a gate and now he has a small area to roam free outside of his crate w/ the wee wee pad outside of the crate instead of inside his crate. He did come out today and use the wee wee pads///Hopefully he keeps this up. Dolce seems to want to play more than eat///that I have noticed. He nibbles on his kibble throughout the day. But when it comes to his soft food he is picky. I am going to switch brands and see if I can get him on some sort of schedule.
