| Yorkie likes to pee on the rubber backed rugs I don't understand why my Yorkie likes rugs...She goes on any rug I put down and I like to use them to help keep the floors more clean in winter and spring and fall and who doesn't want a rug in front of the tub and shower so you don't slip and fall :'( I am kind of at my wits end. I took them up for a long time and we thought we had her trained really well to go OUT. But when I try to put the rugs back down she pees on them again. It makes it hard to even put my cat bowls out as I usually put them on a rug like that too, so it was easy to pick up and clean by washing it. Suggestions appreciated. I hate the thought that I can never put down rugs again...My only thought at the moment is a couple baby gates to keep her only in the room with us. Not a great thought because then I restrict my poor cats to the rooms in our house that are colder(unless they jump the gates and when we leave the house we leave her in those rooms and we will have to pick up every rug that is down then... but might have to.I also hate to throw away all the rugs she's already gone on I wash them in baking soda trying to get them not to smell anymore... If any of you have had this problem and gotten it solved in some way, Please let me know. Thank you Last edited by marah1115; 01-13-2018 at 04:25 PM. Reason: I had to add pertinent info! |

| I believe the pup is confusing the rugs with pee pads, reason why she is peeing on them. If those rugs are light in color use dark ones maybe that would help distinguish pee pads from rugs. I adopted a 2 1/2 yo male in 2013, he came with pee pads even tho he was house broken so I knew he knew what pee pads were for. I am retired and home much of the time, but there are times I have to be gone 7 hours, I always left a pad out for him. I have a dark rug runner in the kitchen in front of the sink and in the living room where there's the most traffic, dark ones at the front door and off white in front of the sofa. The times I had to be gone for 6 / 7 hours he never used the pad, he waited until I came home to go outside to potty. Then I started to smell urine!!!! The pee pad was un-used, I lift the runner in the kitchen, no stains, I lift the dark runner at the front door no stains, I lift the off white in front of the sofa stains. I threw it out, shampooed the carpet and laid down a dark runner, that was 3 years ago, he has never peed on the dark runners. So, he was confused with the white pad and the off white runner. He may use 2 pee pads in one year, he will wait until I get home to potty outdoors if I am gone for 6 / 7 hours. Anytime I am gone that long I check every runner, and no more pee stains. Reason I am suggesting if you're using light colored rugs, try dark ones. Good luck

| I was given my Yorkie- she isn't really potty trained and I am having a hard time with her. I do take her outside often.. She does prefer to go on the welcome mats. |

| I would remove ALL mats until she is fully outdoor trained. Do not give her free roam of the house. Close doors to rooms where you cannot watch her, keep her confined to the room that you are in, where you can supervise her. Put her on a food and potty schedule. Feed same time every day, 30 minutes after she eats take her out side, even if she made in the house take her out doors anyway. All dogs are not the same, some may need to potty before the 30 minutes, this will be a trial period, if you see she went potty 20 minutes after she ate that's when you take her out. You must be consistent with this schedule. Dogs are creatures of habit, they have little built in clocks that let them know when it's time to eat and when it's potty time. Once you start them with anything they expect it all the time. Schedule is a must for out door training.
