| 13 month old still having accidents We take our Winston out at least 4 times a day and were hoping this would be more than enough by now since he is on the big side. Unfortunately he still has accidents in the house. Is this normal for a yorkie over a year old? Any advice? Specifically we are wondering if at this point we can somehow get on a schedule for food/water so that it is more predictable when he will need to go potty. Our shih tzu (who had to be put down when she was 15) was always free fed but also was very good about telling us when she needed to go outside. So far, Winston is not able to do this. If we do a schedule, how would you advise we go about doing it? Winston eats Royal Canin for Yorkies btw. I am hoping for specifics so that Winston will still be well fed, etc. but we can get on a better schedule for going outside and avoid accidents. Thanks in advance! Winston's mommy |

| Hi I can only say maybe to confine him more to a smaller area of the house and maybe get him out more than the 4 times a day. Maybe he cant hold it as long. We are in the midst of training our pups one 4 month and the other 5&1/2 months and one doing well but the other has seemed to regress and is now peeing where ever in the kitchen where they are gated in. Was going on pee pads in the kitchen and outside but now will pee right in front of me on the wall or under the table. The other one is doing pretty good. Also starting to experience allergy issue as well. Sorry cant give more advice. |

| At 13 months old he can be feed twice a day. I feed my Cody 1/2 his food at 7AM, snack at noon, the other 1/2 of food at 5PM at 8PM we go through all his commands with a few treats so that becomes his snack time.. Select a morning and evening feeding time that fits your schedule. The main feed times MUST BE CONSISTENT, schedules are a must for potty training. All dogs have diff. time to potty after they eat, Cody goes 10 minutes after eating, which I think is unusual, all my past dogs went 20 to 30 minutes after eating, so it is trial and error. I suggest 30 minutes after he eats walk him, if you have him pad trained, confine him to where his paid is. If he has an accident or makes before the 30 minutes I would cut it to 20 minutes. If you walk him and he pottys in the house before the walk, WALK him any way, this shows him there is a certain time he gets walked and will hold it until that time. Dogs have a built in alarm clock, and adapt to schedules, walk time MUST also be CONSISTENT. Feed, walk same times every day, consistency and patience is the key word.
