| House breaking need unique ideas My 7 month old 4 lb Yorkie/Bichon mix will bark in the middle of the night to let us know he has to go out. When we take him out most of the time he goes. The issue is when he is in the house ( always watching him) if he has to go he just stops and goes. No warning, no barking just goes. How do we stop this . We tried a small office desk hotel bell but he seemed frightened of it. A bell on the door wont work since we usually have him confined to whatever room we are in and there is not necessarily a door available to put it on. When in crate during the day while we are not home he tears up the pee pad. I am not sure If he has accidents since it so small ( #1 that it is) no accidents of the other kind have happened in the crate. |

| Hello, welcome to YT! At 7 months he is not develped enough to be totally in control of himself. When you are home can you take him out on a rather strict schedule. Do you have an xpen where his potty papers are on one side and his bed on another. Maybe more room than a crate. At his age he does need a schedule and his space restricted until he is reliable. Others will join in and add their help.

| Yes when I am home he is taken regularly. Yes we have a playpen where we keep his crate which has the food and bed ( although he drags the bed out of it) and we have left pee pads on the other side but he rips them, he has never really gone on paper. He either goes outside when we take him or in the house wherever he is. ( He also won't take treats outside so rewarding him outside is not working ,we give him lots of praise of course.) He sleeps through the night without going on occasion ( from 10pm - 5am) |

| Look for pee pad holders on amazon or some other site - they are very useful. Also, make him go pee twice! I found that Teddy pees a little and then needs to pee again in five minutes. 7 months is very young so it sounds like he's doing as he's told (which is great) but hasn't grasped that when you tell him to go pee you mean ALL the pee. Have you checked to see how long the accidents are after the initial pee outside? If you do this, you may see a trend and then you can take him out beforehand. i.e. if you notice that he goes the second time five minutes after the first, either stay outside with him for five more minutes following the first pee, or come in and go out at three minutes to ensure he has an opportunity to go when needed the second time! |
