At 7 months he is not develped enough to be totally in control of himself.
When you are home can you take him out on a rather strict schedule.
Do you have an xpen where his potty papers are on one side and his bed on another. Maybe more room than a crate.
At his age he does need a schedule and his space restricted until he is reliable.
Others will join in and add their help.
