| Accidents In House I was reading today about puppies having accidents in the house. We keep Missy and Muffie in the kitchen with a gate in the doorway. Missy has been having some "piddle" accidents and we don't see her do it. It's mostly when my husband is supposed to be watching her but he's either sitting there reading a book or newspaper or on his laptop - not "really" watching her. The article I read said for you to put her collar and leash on her and keep it on your wrist at all times. Take her around the house with you and she will always be right where you can see her. It said they most likely will not piddle right by you. So, we'll wait and see what happens as I just started this today. I was getting tired of cleaning up the accidents while he took her outside so she couldn't see us cleaning up the mess! Wish us luck! I had forgotten what it was like to housebreak a puppy.

| I know how you feel.. My gizmo is 8 months old now, and he still has accidents in the house. We also gate him in the kitchen when we leave. But he still does it on the rugs in there, even when there is a pee pad down. My vet and my breeder told me that there urinary tract is not mature until they are somewhere around a year, so they can have accidents. He said the same about his bowls. But over all he is really good about knowing where to go. They also said that we should always have the dog know that we are the alpha dog. I know that sounds stupid, but I think its working for me. When we are sitting somewhere, always make sure the dog is lower than you. Because to dogs, who sits the highest, eats first, is the alpha dog. The one thats in control. But anyway, when we take him out to piddle, we make him sit in the door way and let us walk out the door first, and then we tell him to come out. Its about being the boss. It has done us lots of good here, hope it can help you too!!! Good luck, Heather

| i also read about leashing thema nd keeping them by you at all times. I also read that you clap your hands to get tehir attention and say " uh oh potty or pee pee" or whatever and then in a "chipper voice" take them where they SHOULD go and say "YAY potty/pee pee here" |

| At PetsMart, we bought this little furry black sleep pad that has rolled sides to it. You normally put in their cage or crate. We have one for Muffy but hers is like the lambs wool and her hair is cut in a modified Schnauzer cut so she gets colder and that one works fine for her. But little Missy has all this thick hair and she gets hot. She's forever just lying on the tile floor in the kitchen to get cool. Anyway, the furry black sleep pad is a much cooler type fabric. We bought one for Missy's crate in the bedroom and then went back to get another one (before they run out) for the crate in the kitchen for when she's ready for it there. But, in the meantime, last night and this morning, I put the extra pad on the floor beside the chair I was sitting in at the computer. I had Missy's collar and leash on her and she immediately laid down on the pad and went right to sleep. I just laid the leash over my 1 leg and under the other leg so if she moved, I would feel her. She was fine and didn't move at all until Muffie came trallopsing through the den!*! lol The tag on the bottom reads: "deluxe plastic carrier pet bed" I've heard that if they have a "pad, den or whatever" close by that they won't "mess" close to it. Same as not doing it close to you. I thougt "Gee if it's that easy, I'll just keep her tethered to me" and see how that works. Wish me luck! Any more ideas anyone???

| Pixie is a little thing being that young. Look at how little she eats. That just shows you how small their tummys are. So their bladders are even smaller. Our Missy is only 14 weeks old. Try "tethering" her to you with a leash. Don't give her the run of the house! She's wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too young for that. Yesterday Missy went about 4 hours before she had to go out to pee. That compared to about 5 accidents if she had been in the kitchen with free rein. We've had good luck with Missy attached to me. Shoot before, we were taking her out about every hour. I started to think about how she goes all night for 8 hours. So I said to myself, girl we're going for 3 hours in the day and its working being tethered. But we're home during the day as we're retired. I didn't like the idea of putting her in the crate because she cried so much and she uses that when we have to leave for awhile. I thought "there has got to be another way that will make both of us happy!" Tethering was the answer for me. I was like you. I wanted her by me and I knew that to lick this problem we have to do something that we all like AND something to help STRETCH her bladder so she can hold it longer. That's the main goal for us. Good luck!
