| Please help...potty training issues My puppy, Willie, is 7 months old. We are having a very hard time training him. We take him out 4-6 times per day, and he pee pees. He poops on the pad we keep in his pen. When he has to go outside he walks to the door and looks out. The problem is that we don't know if we don't see him at the door. If we don't acknowledge him, he pee pees on the floor either near the door or next to his pee pee pad 70% of the time. The other times he goes on the pad. He seems to understand where he is supposed to go because when he goes on the floor, he runs behind the couch and watches us clean it. We are trying very hard to train him, but it is so difficult. Does anyone have any ideas on how to help? Also, does anybody know about how long it should take to train him? Thank you

| LOL How long should it take?? Well I have a 6 year old and he still has accidents! It sounds like you are doing a good job, you just need to watch him more. Whenever he goes to that door he should be let out to go potty, if he does he should be rewarded. That is the biggest thing in potty training is watching them. Now if he stands at the door and nobody lets him out, and he pees somewhere he isn't suppose to.. you can’t discipline him for that. This is why watching him plays a big part in potty training. I would just advise you to watch him more. Whoever lives in your household should play a part in this as well. You can look into bell training.. that is when you tie a bell on the door and he will paw at the bell to let you know he needs to go outside. I know a couple YT members have bell trained their dog and it works great for them. Willie is the perfect age to start that.
