Yorkie Talker | Sleep deprived My little girl is 14 weeks old and I've had her for 10 days. The breeder asked me to have her sleep next to me in a pen in my bedroom when I first brought her home because she is so small (1.7 lb) and was having some hypoglycemia issues. She thought the stress of leaving the litter mates and the new place might be an issue for her. The first 5 or 6 nights she did extremely well. Just whimpered for 10/15 minutes then slept all night until around 7 a.m. Well, that all changed this past Sunday night. She carried on all night off and on and I didn't get more that maybe a couple hours sleep. I decided to move her into her "Puppy Apartment" in the kitchen last night at the other end of my small ranch style home. Had the same issue last night. Even less sleep last night. I've covered the kennel top and part way down the sides with a light weight blanket to shut out possible scary shadows and make it feel more cave like. Also put one of my shirts in with her. Any ideas out there on how long it takes for them to settle down at night? What have been some of your experiences? |

Maybe she wasn;t feeling well or something scared her. Is she getting some exercise before bed time? Sometimes that will help.

YT 2000 Club Member | I would say she is lonely! Put her back in your room, close to your bed. I let mine sleep with us and they have been very good about sleeping cuddled next to me or on my pillow. If you are worried about her falling out of bed, try a soft side kennel in your bed. Yorkies are pack animals or need companionship with their mom!

| I agree she needs to be with you. I use to play with Pixie bf bedtime and then I would warm up her blanket in the dryer and put her in her pen and cover it with a blanket.

Yorkie Talker | Sleep deprived Thank you so much for your input. I will try moving her back in. Yes, we play alot in the evening & when I come home for lunch. Mornings we snuggle and eat and play a little before I have to put her back in the kennel and be off to work. When we went to bed last night at 10:30 she did well until about 2 a.m., then it was on and off until my alarm went off at 6. My bed sits really high off the ground so I am afraid to put her in bed with me, fearing that she will try to jump off and end up breaking a leg. I have to get up during the night so hopefully she will not be disturbed when I do that. |

| If you're worried about the bed height, have you considered getting one of those steps things and put it next to the bed? That way, she can go up/down as she pleases. |

| Could you give little more details about your playtime schedule? Like.. if you go to bed at 10:30, what time do you play with her? I had a friend who's pup would wake her up every hour.. with her, she just played with him like 15 min before bedtime and he'd be knocked out for the rest of the night. I hope you find a solution soon. It must be frustrating not knowing what's bothering her, not to mention the fatigue you're feeling... |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Have you tried putting a stuffed animal or two in bed with her? I ended up doing that with Jasper. I would use the animal during our before bed playtime and then let him sleep with it. After about 2 nights he was sleeping much better. Wish I had an solid proof answer for you. Hang in there. It does get better

| jess was fine at first too. not a peep, then came the barking all hours of the night. I think at first they are scared witless and don't make a sound Then they get a little more aware and barking mania. I kind of like it to premmies human babies who come home and don't realized they are born yet and are angels. As soon as you think you have this baby thing nailed, WHAM it all changes. We finally put her in a medium size crate big enough for a bed and pee pad in my daughters room who softly snores. We also has a night light Worked like a charm. So get a nightlight and try a white noise machine or one of those heartbeat bears..especially if your a quiet sleeper or want her In a different room. I cant have Jess with me as it looks like I may be allergic to her and anyways Im not real into having dogs sleep in my bed..but thats just me. |

| Have you tried one of those pillows, you put in the microwave to warm up. I've heard it helps some pups, guess it feels like the pile of mum and siblings to snuggle up to.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | They have little packs that you warm up in the microwave that looks like a puppy at petsmart. I have one for Galen. Worked like a charm

| I put Barney in a "sleeping bag" when we brought him home. I think it was actually an airplane carrier. It is a nylon bag that zips up. It has mesh sides and mesh front so he could see through it. I think it was $20 at Wal-Mart. I put it on the bed beside me. This is how we slept the first few weeks until I felt comfortable that he wouldn't try to jump off. He did great this way. Whenever he would whine, I would pull the bag up close to my face so he could see me. |

| How would you feel if you just left your mom and litter mates and where put in a dark room all by yourself. You need to move her back into your room and you will have to ignore her when she does it or take her potty and put her straight back. Getting a new puppy is like a new baby you don't get a lot of sleep most of the time.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | We have playtime for about 20-30 minutes, then one more potty trip, get a gentle hair brushing, and then I curl him up close and rock him for about 5 minutes just sitting on the side of the bed. Then I put him in his kennel (which right by my bed). He will settle down and sleep. It may seem like a lot to do, but it isn't.
