| Shy puppy Hello everyone! I'm new to this board, and am getting my first Yorkie in a month when we move back to our own home (I was in school for two years so we have been renting). I have already found a puppy (6 mo) and have visited him a couple of times now. My concern is that he seems to be very shy. The last time I visited (yesterday) he did come up to me though, and that is an improvement. Do you think his shyness is just due to his living situation? The owners are an older couple and while they play with the puppies, there are never any other people around. The puppy doesn't seem to be shy at all around them, just me. I just want the puppy to be comfortable with me, and not scared. Oh! His name is Buddie |

| It sounds like he needs some socializing that is very important. That makes a difference in a puppy. I have taken my dogs around children elders, and other dogs when they were pups. I think in time Buddie will fall in love and be very social. He just needs to get some exposure to more people and gain a little trust. Remember he is a baby and needs gentleness and love and that is what you will get back. When I got my Daisy who is 9.5 yrs old she came from a puppy mill and I could not even pet her without her shying away. I was not going to give up on her...I slowly gained her trust and spent time doing it and she is the most loving loyal dog...

| Thank you for the replies, they definitely make me feel better. Buddie will get lots of socializing once I take him home, I just wish it were sooner! |

| My Piccolo was very shy, when I met her the first time. She is still a little cautious when meeting humans, but not around those she knows. As everyone else has suggested, just keep finding socialization opportunities.
