| New Owner here! Hi guys! My sister in law is moving and Rosie cannot go. So she is joining our family..to stay for good. She is 8..has been through many many homes. I need advice for this particular situation. Rosie actually lived two houses from me..so its very confusing for her..it seems that she wasn't given a proper goodbye or something. I feel so bad..she must feel abandoned...again. Rosie wants to go home..Today is her first full day..she came over late last night. Right now..i am currently putting her on a leash when i take her outside..i stop her at the corner..pick her up and go back to my porch. She is petty trained for outdoors..so she may want to go back to her designated area or..just go back home. In about...a week or so..my sister in laws home will be empty of furniture. since the house is on the same property and literally paces away..i thought to show Rosie that it was empty if she was still insistent about going back..but wasn't sure if that was a good idea or not. I am open for all advice and suggestions on anything!! |

| Welcome and Congrats on your new adopted Rosie. So glad you were able to take that sweetie in. Honestly it will probably take her a couple weeks or so to get use to her new home. I adopted a yorkie girl out, ( Gave her to my DH’s friend) when he took her home he took her blanket that had the smell or her old house on it. He said he left it in her bed so she would have that smell… well the smell ended up making her more upset. So he washed it and he said after that she was acting way more happy and comfortable in her own skin. So that being said I would just make your own schedule for Rosie. If you have anything that smells of her old home wash it. When you take her on a walk take her the opposite way. It will be hard on her, but given time she will get comfortable living at her new house.

| I think she will be just fine. Some take longer than others to adjust, but they all do. I fostered for years, and had Yorkies of all ages. They are so resilient when properly taken care of and loved. They remind me of a rose bud that slowly opens and shows their personality.

| I got Jess at a year old from her breeder who decided she wasnt of show mentality. It took a couples months before she got comfortable. The quiet shy dog I got is now a barking ball of fire. Still sweet but tested me alot in the beginning. She now knows Im the boss but if shes a good girl she gets everything her hearts desire and more attention than she ever got at her last home... besides me and my dh she has 4 young girls who think she hung the moon! It just takes time... |

| Thanks everyone! At the end of Rosie's first day..we went to my moms and had a dinner with friends. She was truly comfortable with all the new people andthe big dogs and cats. She was so happy! And when we got home..got out of the car. She looked to the right..her old home right there. Instead of trying to lead me there..she walked up the path..up the steps..through the door..to my bedroom to lay down. :-) Thanks for the advice about the blanket smell. She came with a blanket..she doesn't seem interested in it..in fact..she won't even touch it. Also..i have two kids..two and 6 months. Her previous owner has a 2 and 5 year old. Rosie has started to show interest in my 2 year old..approaching and sitting next to. Which is awesome! I have been trying to comb her hair..and the hair around and below her eyes has gunk ..what is the best way to take care of that? Also..her previous owner only fed her wet food..canned food. I doubt she ever even looked at her teeth..i am switching her to dry food..already looked up what food to give her. I want to take her to vet but would like to know how to clean her teeth..and how do i wash her.. Okay..yeah..its my first dog..im a stay at home mom so she is never tied up..never locked up..i don't do that! :-) |
