Yorkie Talker | Crate training question I am curious about crate training. We have talked about the collapsible crates or the wire crates & what to go with. I have the standard pet carrier but not sure if that is a good idea to train him in that. He was not use to going outside & was use to paper training only. I know he is going to cry lots but as it is, I have resorted to sleeping on the sofa (he whines if he wants down & wont go on the sofa) with him & my poor hubby keeps asking when I will be back to our room but at least out here I know if he needs down I can get up & go outside & it is crazy right now but I want opinions please. I need a little bit of normal back in my life! |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I have trained all four of my Yorkies and a couple of other pups throughout the years using the same methods and cage training techniques . I have added them to my web site with the hope of helping others who choose to crate train their own pups. I feel that it is the best and safest way for your new addition to the home. The link is in my signature below, if you have any questions please feel free to message me.

| I use a wire crate with my yorkie, I have with all my dogs I've ever owned. The kind with the tray that slides out for easy cleaning. My little boy cried for the first week whenever he was in the kennel at night but we just ignored it and now he goes in there no problem and only cries when he needs to come out to potty (usually early in the morning) |

| Standard Pet Carrier here, too, for crating. Blazer loves his kennel and sleeps in it every night right next to my side of the bed. He's safe in there and I like knowing exactly where he is- especially if I have to get up in the middle of the night (I have 3 young daughters so it is a common occurance around here!) and I don't have to worry about possibly stepping on him! He has a soft baby blanket folded up inside of it for his bed and, until he destroyed it, a stuffed toy that was about the same length as him (it was great when I first brought him home and he was missing his mama and siblings.)

| Yes, I'm sure he will be fine. My Bella finds the crating at night much more tolerable than crating during the day, so hopefully your Yorkie will be fine at night, and you will be able to have him by your bed at night. |

| I bought a medium size crate because I knew id never get up every night to go outside and i wanted her pee pad trained. It has enough room for her bed and a full size pee pad.She peed her bed a couple times but honestly it was because she missed on the corner. I put the medium crate in my daughters room. (she likes the sound of my daughters snoring) She hardly ever pees on the pad anymore, she holds it for 10 hours! We bring her downstairs in the morning and put her in her super long (5 foot crate) with its own bathroom and she goes in there and is then let out of the crate. We put her back in every few hours and no accidents in the house at all in the last month.. |
