| Just Got Our 10 Week Old- Potty Training We just got our 10 week old, Louie. He was never potty trained and always went in his pen prior to us getting him. He had actually never been outside before so he was a little scared the first time his little paws touched the cold grass. Anyway, since Friday night when we got him, we have been crazy about getting him outside every hour or so and to our surprise he seems to be learning very fast. He has not once gone in the house! I know it's only 2 full days and we've been with him almost every minute of that time. Has anyone else experienced this type of thing? Is he just trying to be good to his new owners? He gets rewarded with a little treat every time he goes outside and he already seems to know it when he comes inside. Is it possible that we're going to get lucky with a smart little pup or am I speaking way too soon? Also, he doesnt whine at night and slept through the first 3 nights without waking us once and we slept 6-7 hours all 3 nights, the minute we took him out of his crate and took him outside he was ready to pee. |

| Hi we got Kiki just over two weeks ago and she is around the same age as your guys. I take her out every half an hour. She is great for peeing outside. For the most part, pooping is good too- but she has some pooo issues because of the new food and she needs her butt shaved (tni). I really think that our puppies are too young to fully grasp the concept of potty training right now, though. |

| I agree. Louie is starting to understand that when he goes outside he gets a treat when he come in. He comes in and gets really excited. The problem is, he hasnt yet realized that he only gets the treat if he went potty. 90% of the time we take him out, he will go, but the other 10% that he doesnt need to go, he comes in still looking for his treat. It's only a matter of time until he fully grasps it though. Sometimes I try to give him the treat outside right after he goes just to show him exactly why he's getting the treat but if he drops it, sometimes its hard to find for him if its at night. |

| If he went in his crate are you sure he wasn't in there too long? We chose to leave the crate open when we were asleep (and the crate is inside a pen to keep him safe) the pen was lined with paper. So, if he had to go he could go on the paper (and keeps him paper trained). He quickly got to the point where he will avoid going in the pen but we've protected him from ever having to go in his crate. His toy monkey gets dragged through some dirty situations but he's never been used as a toilet yet. He will sometimes sit on him for no obvious reason. On the other hand you might just be unlucky. Also, even when he gets that it pleases you to go in a particular way then he'll probably still break the rules occasionally. Its as if sometimes he can't be bothered to comply. I think its a bit like sit - most of the time he will do it but occasionally he'll ignore the command. |

| I brought Riley home at about 10 1/2 weeks old... I had six days off of work to spend with him. I stayed in the living room with him a lot and on each side of me I had a very large Purina second nature doggie litter box which I put PeePee Pads in.... I am in the back corner of the 5th floor of a building in DC. I decided to go ahead and PeePee Pad train him first... He seemed to catch on pretty quickly and was doing really well right away. I was actually pretty shocked at how well e was doing and I told that to my vet when we went for his second set of vaccinations. She told me that Pups have minimal bladder control until they are at about 16-weeks of age. She said he was doing so well because he was Smart. |

| I found this: Puppy Bladder Development | eHow.com CONTROL: Most puppies under six months cannot control their bladder for more than a few hours at a time. According to University of California's Davis College of Veterinary Medicine the frequency of elimination breaks should align with your puppy's age. The age/elimination guidelines are: six to 14 weeks/ eight to 10 times daily, 14 to 20 weeks/six to eight times daily, 20 to 30 weeks/four to six times daily, and 30 weeks and older/three to four times daily. |

YT Addict | My Bogey and Maggie are 13 weeks old and came home exactly one week ago. They always go on their pee pad in their x-pen but when I let them out to run around and get exercise in the kitchen they must forget and sometimes pee and poop on the area rugs. I think I'm going to have to pull the rugs up for now, it's confusing them. I really love the x-pen. It's like their own little studio apartment They have food and water, their bed, pee pad and toys for entertainment. |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Potty training takes time. Also if your pup is cold get a sweater or two for him. Target has some in there dollar bins for $3. You don't want to spend a lot for clothes when they are just going to grow out of it in a month or two Good luck |
