Puppy Play Pen Before I start, I want to say thank you to everyone on this site for so much great information and helpful tips. Without browsing this place, I would be lost. We are very excited about getting our first 10 week old Yorkie puppy on Friday. We really want to set up some kind of play/sleep/potty pen for him for when we are at work. We will be having a sitter come in every day for an hour so he will only be alone for 3-4 hours at a time. We are going to crate him at night but during the day we want him to be able to enjoy himself while also learning the correct place to "go" if he needs to. I've seen some people build their own and some seem to have been bought. The ones I have found to buy seem to be very expensive. We just want to set up a little something maybe 3-4 feet by 3-4 feet where he can have a bed to sleep him, a little play area with his toys and also a sepatate area for him to go potty. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You can get an x-pen, either wire or the lattice looking plastic king....they can be formed in octagons, rectangular or square areas...I saw someone on here had a carrier on one side, with the x-pen forming an enclosed play area out in front of the carrier....dont know if you can imagine what this looks like.....they can then enter the carrier for naps, and come out into the "play yard" to potty, play, or eat!...I always put the carrier inside the x-pen, and that works great, put pee pads on the other end, put food and water on the other side...but the carrier took up so much room....then I saw the set up someone on here had! That works so much better....as long as your baby can not climb up on top of the carrier, walk the length of the carrier, and jump/fall off the back and be free! Maybe they will come on and post the picture of this type of set up so it is clear to you!

YT Addict | I purchased mine on Amazon which included free shipping but since your pup is coming so soon you might want to pay for overnight shipping. I bought the larger size since two puppies will be sharing the space. Our pups will be coming soon so I've been working on configuring the walls to give them separate areas to sleep, potty and eat in. It's very easy to put together. |

I just purchased the IRIS pen on Amazon. I did the Amazon Prime free month trial so I should have it by Monday. We get the pup on Friday so I'll be sure to post some pictures.

Seabreeze Petite Pens. SeaBreeze Petite Pens - A lightweight solution to heavy exercise pens I bought one of these on our breeders recommendation when Columbo was a puppy (he's 9 now). They are made for small dogs like yorkies. I LOVE this pen because it is very lightweight and folds up easily, has handles and takes up very little room when folded up. We take it everywhere with us when we travel and use it instead of a crate. They have a couple different sizes and heights. My pen is 8 panels that are 24" high x 18" wide, which is the perfect height for my 8 lb. dog. But they have many sizes. I can use it as a pen in different shapes and I also use it opened up across the opening to our front porch sometimes to block him in when I am working in the yard. It's vinyl coated and has plastic edges so it won't scratch the floor. I feel like this pen is the best kept secret out there. Last edited by bobohyde; 11-02-2012 at 04:10 AM.
