| ![]() I have a 6lb 8 month old yorkie girl, who is spayed, and she is so hyper, she seems like she does not want to listen. She can sit, and she does stay for alittle bit when told too, however she runs around like a crazy dog with so much energy. She wants to do what she wants, not what is told to her. She growls and jumps around like she has ants in her pants, I know she loves to play but she is endless... How do I get her to settle down, walking her does no good, she still gets those hyper moments. Someone told me she could just be a hyper dog and this is the way she is, as she is still a puppy. I need help please

| ![]() I have had a lot of success with hyper dogs by teaching them to walk on a treadmill. For troubled dogs, it is always the first thing I do. Treadmill walking is different from taking an outside walk. Number one, they have to pay attention so that they don't fall off; number two, there are not the usual smells and distractions like on an outside walk; number three, the monotony and rhythm of a treadmill actually help them to focus and relax somewhat. If you want to try it, you may have to introduce the treadmill gradually and desensitize the dog to it first. For instance, I introduce them to the sounds by turning it on and off before I even put them on it. I also get onto the treadmill and walk with them until they are confident enough to be on by themselves. Even then, they are always supervised, and stay on in short sessions. You have to be fairly confident to be able to do this, and, while it is not for everyone, it does help some dogs, and many dogs absolutely love it. There are lots of videos on youtube that can help. However, please do not try it if you have any doubts. |

Zachary's Mom Donating Member | ![]() ONE reason I got a Biewer Yorkie, other than the fact that I liked how different they looked, is that I had heard they were not as hyper as "regular" Yorkies. My breeder told me how laid back he was and he IS. He CAN get crazy when playing with Yumble, the Japanese Chin, but basically he is NOT hyper at all. Louise ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | ![]() PACTIANCE and lots of IT..... My moms dog was very hyper thanks to my sister greeting him at the door every weekend getting him overly excited and getting him in a frenzy. Well after several years of being jumped on and scratched I had had enough. I refuse to pet him while he was in that state of mind. I worked with him every time I went to her house. I did the knee raise thing when he jumped on me and told him "down". I didn't allow him to jump on me regardless of how many times he tried. Plus I never pet him until he was calm and in a sitting position. Im glad to say that after 6 months of working with him (about once a week during visits) he is a much calmer dog and greets me by sitting and waiting patiently until I am ready to pet him. No jumping or scratching ! It may also help with your guy if you try leash traing. There are lot of web site that explain how to go about it. It is also called umbilical cord training.

| ![]() She is young so will get some hyper stuff. A good obedience class it usually a good idea - just pick an obedience trainer who is OK with you using a harness and has trained small dogs.

| ![]() She needs to run ! Go for a bike ride and let her run along, that does miracles for my dog ! ![]() Also I go jogging with the dogs, it helps ![]() If he isn't tired then , then I go in the garden for half an hour and throw a ball and let him return it. And also, I train him in Obedience, yorkies love obedience ! I reccomand you teaching her for example heal, lay down at heel, sit down at heel, come, stay etc., dogs love that, just have her favorite treats with you and her fav. toy and she'll probably love every second of obedience ! ![]()

| ![]() my puppy is really hyper too but she's been pretty good about obeying for the most part (a very stern voice is the trick). Walks help a little bit but usually I take her over to my parents at least once a week and let her play with their dogs. They run around the yard for a good 1/2 hr or hour and when i get home she's pooped. It seems they just need to get that energy out. Of course the next day they are back at it but i'd suggest finding her a playmate. |

| ![]() My Yorkies are all related. My littlest Roxy is the firecracker of the bunch- Go,go,go all day. Her favorite thing to do is yell at my Golden when he can't find the ball/toy in the grass. She actually has beat him to the toy multiple times. 4 pound yorkie vs. 90 pound golden. Fetching is her passion in life.

| ![]() Some dogs do have more energy than others. Your dog is a high energy dog and needs a person who is also high energy. Yes, she needs lots of exercise. Not just a walk now and then but some long fast walks, some games of fetch and lots of attention given in training sessions though out the day. You will have one unhappy destructive dog if you don't invest a great deal of time in her and you will be unhappy, too. Her energy level may lessen as she gets older but she is always going to need an active lifestyle. She would probably make an excellent agility dog. |
