I have had a lot of success with hyper dogs by teaching them to walk on a treadmill. For troubled dogs, it is always the first thing I do. Treadmill walking is different from taking an outside walk. Number one, they have to pay attention so that they don't fall off; number two, there are not the usual smells and distractions like on an outside walk; number three, the monotony and rhythm of a treadmill actually help them to focus and relax somewhat.

If you want to try it, you may have to introduce the treadmill gradually and desensitize the dog to it first. For instance, I introduce them to the sounds by turning it on and off before I even put them on it. I also get onto the treadmill and walk with them until they are confident enough to be on by themselves. Even then, they are always supervised, and stay on in short sessions.

You have to be fairly confident to be able to do this, and, while it is not for everyone, it does help some dogs, and many dogs absolutely love it. There are lots of videos on youtube that can help. However, please do not try it if you have any doubts.
