PACTIANCE and lots of IT.....

My moms dog was very hyper thanks to my sister greeting him at the door every weekend getting him overly excited and getting him in a frenzy. Well after several years of being jumped on and scratched I had had enough. I refuse to pet him while he was in that state of mind.

I worked with him every time I went to her house. I did the knee raise thing when he jumped on me and told him "down". I didn't allow him to jump on me regardless of how many times he tried. Plus I never pet him until he was calm and in a sitting position.

Im glad to say that after 6 months of working with him (about once a week during visits) he is a much calmer dog and greets me by sitting and waiting patiently until I am ready to pet him. No jumping or scratching !

It may also help with your guy if you try leash traing. There are lot of web site that explain how to go about it. It is also called umbilical cord training.
