| Does this make sense? Well instead of doing ANOTHER(lol) post about help with potty training I figured Ill post my theory that came to me when I was thinking to myself "Why wont Joel potty train!?!" And see what you think. So I'm probably wrong about this but when I read all the stuff on potty training it sound like it's only for the beginning stages, and I feel like Joel is past that part and already knows to go outside and how to tell me. I dunno, maybe I'm setting the bar too high? With our daycare I've helped potty train alot of kids and theres those kids that just plain don't want to potty train, I've heard some 2-3 yr olds actualy say they dont want to and than at age 4 they would just decide to do it. And then theres the realy young kids that potty train fast. Anyway I notice when Joel goes the longest without an accident its only because I keep taking him out, so wheres that line where he will just do it.......I cant find it!lol Will it be like this forever, So is it possible for them to know how and just not want to? Or is it all just my fault I love Joely alot but I guess im just discouraged (And now its still another post about potty training) Sorry for the rant |

| What's he usually doing just before he has an accident? How old is he now? Do you give him a treat when he potties appropriately?

| He's 7 months, he gets his favorite treat when he potties outside. I think he might have to much run in the house so Ive gated more areas. So now im trying to get him to tell me when he has to go. For a long time he will tell me on his own and so I let my gaurd down a tiny bit thinking he'll tell me and then he'll poo. But I guess that parts my fault. |

| I don't know if this will work..but when I get my baby (in 11 days!) I have a bell next to the door at her height. Every time I take her out to potty, I'll ring the bell. Then I'll move to using her paw to ring the bell..and I'm HOPING that will work. I know you said he is past the beginning stages...but I noticed there weren't many other posts, so I wanted to see if I could help. |

| Yeah, I should try the bell. He does good sometimes to bark at the door but sometimes he wont, maybe he'll think the bell is fun, hehe |

| You just need to tweak your system. Are you missing any of his signals? If he goes out and pees, does he then come in to poop? If yes, time the interval, and next time just take him back out to finish his business. Bringing him in make trigger him to relax, then he realizes he has to still go.

| Try to watch his body language also - that's one way we can tell if Jack has to go out - he will stand in front us - sometimes he barks and sometimes he doesn't and if we are not 100% certain, we put him out.

| I noticed most of the accidents are when he sneaks upstairs thats where he likes to poo but when I keep the gate up he's more likely to tell me, also I think I took him out of the playpen too early and by the time I relized he should still be in the pen it was too late to put him back bc he was used to being free hehe, but I'm definetly going to keep him in the same room as me and watch his "signs" to go out |

| The bell system has been very successful for us as well! Although Toki sometimes just rings it when she wants to go outside and play. |

| I think I found the main reason he is having trouble potty training, When I first trained him I tought him to bark at the door and he would do it sometimes but I think it's hard for him to remember so I would ignore when he just stands at the door, I thought it wouldn't be good to let him out when he just stands there because later I wouldn't hear him. So he was more likely to potty in the house bc he knew I wouldn't take him out. But now I'm taking him out even when I see him standing there and he's been going to the door all by himself, he hasn't had an accident for a while. So now I just have to make sure to always see him at the door, I guess it's better for him to go to the door quietly then the way i've been doing it. |

| Peek A Boo usually will try to get my attention, then when I look at him he heads to the door. I didn't train him to do this, he must have just realized that if I didn't see him, he wouldn't get to go out.

| Sometimes when Joel does bark to go potty I never know what he's barking for because he likes to bark for me to chase him so when I get up he will grab a toy and run around the house or if he needs to go potty he will go to the door lol |

| I think watching for signals is very important. Fiona gently touches my leg, gives me a strange stare, and then she walks me to the door. she does this also when she wants to play with toys, she's hungry, water bowl needs water etc. she walks me to where the problem is. |
