| Hey Gina! I don't know either. I usually clean Zeus' up while he is looking at me. He looks at me as if he knows it was a no no and he looks a little embarrased. I don't say anything to him, unless I catch him in the act. I would like to know too, if this is the right approach.

| hmmm...I don't really know, but I'll give it a shot. Maybe they don't want their yorkie to think that they get attention for peeing in the wrong place? When Miko pees slightly off the pad, thanks to bad aim, I usually just clean it up whether Miko is in there or not.

| I've read that if you do it in front of them they see that as your giving them attention for doing something bad....nontheless it's attention. I dont get it either...I clean it in front of Kelsey but she has a time out corner that she HATES to stay in so that is her punishment..and taking away all of her toys for about an hour. She "gets" it and usually slips up every now and then.

| What is it with the boys? LOL My boys often miss the pad. They pee on the edge with their leg cocked a little. They crack me up. It must be a male thing. I wish they would pee in the middle of the pad like Isabella.

| Ok, its me who said DONT clean up while they watching, they interpret it as " its ok because she pays attention to what i did" so if you DONT catch them peeing in the wrong place its better to ignore it, if you catch them peeing yell NO and put them on the pee pad right away, remember to praise them plenty when they do it where you want them to. I got this information from a puppy trainer many years ago, long before i had my girls. I trained both my girls this way and it really worked for us. Im not sure if they understand punishment, so from the start i praise them for the things they do the way i expect them to and ignore them for a few minutes after they did wrong. ( i tell them NO thats a bad girl now ) They dont allow me to ignore them for more then a few minutes and will come tell me their story after 2 minutes lol I hope this helped

The one thing that I would change if I were you is the yelling when she gets it wrong. This will most likely lead to a dog who sneaks off to potty to avoid getting yelled at. She won't be comfortable pottying in your presence. Like Chelsy said, go heavy on the praise when she gets it right. I'd even give her a special treat for getting it right. Good luck!!! | |
