| My yorkie keeps on biting me! My Chanel is 3 months old, and every time i play with her she playfully bites me but it hurts. How to make her stop before it gets out of hand? |

| My baby did this too, but the second she started nipping i'd snap my fingers say "enough" and put her down on the floor. She would come back up and keep doing it but im as stubborn as she is. Again i would snap my fingers say enough and put her down on the floor. Eventually she got the point. Now when she's playing she'll nip a little bit but when it gets too rough i just snap my fingers or say enough and she stops. Takes time, but they catch on!

| Give a yip noise and an ouch so your pup knows this hurts. Puppies learn for their mother and littermates what is acceptable nipping so you have to let them know nipping on you and others is not acceptable. Then give the puppy a chew toy so your puppy will know what is acceptable to bite. Eight years ago when I got Kirby she was only six weeks old. She didn't get the needed socialization from her mom and littermates that she needed. She nipped on us like crazy. This method helped. This time when we got Khloe she was almost 4 months old and it's such a difference. She knows not to nip on us. Get plenty of chew toys. When Khloe wants to chew something she should'nt we hand her a chew toy. Of course when Khloe tries to nip on Kirby, Kirby puts her in her place and Khloe stops. Those puppy teeth hurt. | Oh my goodness...my Bella does the same exact thing! And I swear she has a foot fetish. Whenever I take her outside, my poor baby can't even concentrate on going potty because she's constantly chasing my feet and nibbling on them. |

| If the dog doesn't receive the correct training, (I am not trying to make judgement calls here) the biting may never stop. Some dogs may only bite when teething, some may enjoy the mouth feel and keep it up, or just not learn that biting is not okay. Jaeger is very mouthy-chewed on everything not nailed down (and some things that were!) and was a nipper during play only. What we did was say firmly "No teeth!" and stop playing with him. He'd keep it up, we just kept reinforcing it, turning away and not engaging in rough play with him. If he was on the bed or in a chair with us while misbehaving, we'd put him on the floor. The other thing I do is wail "you hurt momma" in a high pitched voice if he nips accidentally or in play-he'll stop playing, come over and wag his tail tentatively, licking the area that he accidentally hurt. He's rarely inappropriate now with biting, but if he forgets, usually a "no teeth" said gently is all the reminder he needs. Don't forget to give your dogs plenty of things to chew-antlers, himalayan chews, bully sticks, and praise him when you see him grab a chewy and use it-he'll get the idea that if he is feeling bitey, to bite the toy/treat. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | The chewing on everything in site and under the bed, sofa etc is what's getting to us. They have chewed holes in the carpet under the sofa and now chewing the liner off the bottom of the box springs in the master bedroom. They have everything in the world to chew on, but they still like to chew on things they shouldn't, |

We still have the occasional issue with Jaeger trying to dig indoors when he doesn't get his way-he's torn up the carpet near the doors a bit. Can you block off wherever they are going and being inappropriate? Put something there so they can't get under the bed? You could try bitter apple or other chew-deterent sprays on the offended objects, but they didn't stop Jaeger any. It may be a bit cumbersome and a lot of extra work, but if you keep a leash on them at all times, you can grab the leash and get them when they are being inappropriate. If your dogs get tangled when left semi-supervised with a leash, you'll have to hold the other end-it might take a few weeks/months, but it should be worth it. Don't forget to praise them when they do happen to chew on the right object. | |

Senior Yorkie Talker | Thanks the bitter apple doesn't work we have used two bottle of it and they even chew when things are wet from it being sprayed on the item. The lease haven't tried, but will give it a shot. The only thing we really worry about is the damage to the carpet and the box springs and if that stuff will hurt them. We always praise and give treats when they do good. |
