| Knowing how much to reward with food Hi, I read the free pdf that was linked in this forum, and she talked about only feeding through reward, so not putting a bowl of food down at all. If I were to try this method, how do I know how much I can feed my yorkie? Do I just measure out the cup of food, and then use that as treats over the day? Has anyone tried it? |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | No , Never heard of it. My question would be, if you do do this than once your pup is completely trained how will he know when and where they are so pose to eat once the training is over? How will they learn how and when to eat a regular meal? I guess Food training all day every day can be a good thing but I would be worried about them not learning proper feeding habits. It seems like it would be a habit that will probably lead to you doing it for a very long time. Which can lead to confusion later on.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I have only done this - ie hand fed their breakie/dinner, if the dog has shown food aggression. Oh and also on show weekends :-) But yes you do measure out their daily allotment of food - and then it is very simple, you give an obedience command, and the first one my trainer teaches us to teach, is "focus command" - this is when the dog looks at you and then you immediately reward. Next sit, and come. But I do always have the dogs do an obedience command prior to releasing them to have their dinner/breakie.
