Grass PeePad Hi everyone! I got my little Lola (2lbs) a Grass PeePad to use. Unfortunately, she thinks its a play area/bed. Does anyone else have this problem? Any tips or suggestions for letting her know that this is not Lola's bed and where she should be doing pee pee? I have told her 'no' in a stern voice when she uses it for play or relaxation but it doesn't seem to be working. Help!!

Yes, we got on of these for Harry for when we first brought him home. And he did exactly the same thing We tried everything - including of course catching his pee on a pee-pad and putting the 'scent' on the grassy thing (by the way, have you tried that?!!?). We tried only pottying outside, and saying "good wee-wee" when he performed. And then tried transferring him to the grassy thing while that was happening - but he just stepped off it, and onto the grass aaargh! So, in the end, we just let him potty on the grass outside - and he ended up actually shredding the grass peepad and I threw it away! I'm sorry if this is a rubbish reply - but that's what happened with us....Good luck! Sally + Harry x | |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I bought one to try it out when Bubbles was a pup. She rolled and rubbed on it for a while. She rarely ever did use it for its intended purpose. I ended up getting rid of it. I didn't feel like it ever really got clean. Good luck.

Hi, I have one for lola, at the beginning i only used the "grass carpet" and not the plastic container because i thought it was going to be hard for her to step on it (she was only 1.5 lb.) so i used it with a pee pad underneath and she did the same thing as ur puppy, she laid on it all the time, all what i did was to say "NO" and take her off of the grass pad. whenever she was going to pee, i'd bring her on the pad and say " go pee pee" sometimes she walked away and i would bring her right back to the pee pad until she pee. it actually takes time but is well worth it, i don't have to let her out every hour, in rainy days i don't have to worry about letting her out and getting her all wet, even when i leave the house for long periods of time, i don't worry about her having to "hold it" for so long because i know she has her grass pad in the house. I def recommend the grass pad. the first 1 or 2 weeks i used a spray that "smells" like pee and it is supposed to help them know they need to pee. Good luck!!!

i forgot to tell you, once she learned how to use it and when she was a little bigger ( like 3 lb) i put the plastic container back.

thank you, everyone for your replies!! I'm glad to hear i'm not the only one who is having some trouble with this! I have tried putting a wee pad that she had 'gently used' on top of the grass peepad to get the scent and idea of what she was supposed to be using it for going but that didn't seem to work. I am going to try and get the scent spray from PetSmart this week -- hopefully that will entice her. I am also going to try to remove the plastic container on the bottom to see if that helps any. I'd hate to throw $50 out the window.. Ps. i've attached a picture of Lola and her grass bed.

Oh she is a little sweetie-pie! And you won't have to throw it away if it doesn't work - she can just use it for her bed (as she's doing now! ). Good luck with the spray - will you let us know how it works? Sally + Harry x

I went to Home Depot the other day and got a tray of grass (sod) I'm putting it on my porch as I live in an apartment. This is just another option for my puppy. I take him out to pee like 4-6 times a day but the grass gives him another option and it's easy to just spray down with water to clean. It cost just $6.50 for the grass and is about 2 ft x 2 ft

I use this "sterile fox urine" that came with my grass pee box..I think it helped! But box came with a container with sides...so what I also did was put a pee pad in it without the grass and since my doggie was already pad trained, he would go into the box to pee, and we would congratulate him. After a while we started putting the grass in with a pee pad folded in half close to the entrance of the box, and he would go in and pee, and again we would reward him. We eventually took away the pad and viola! Grass box trained! But my grass stated smelling horribly of ammonia no matter how much bleach/baking soda/laundry detergent i put in it...so now I just use the box as a pad holder...lol

I'm not a fan of the grass peepad. I'm thinking it must be difficult to clean? We use the Ugodog and line it with training pads. Easy clean ups and no pee paws As for the grass pad I would definitely leave a piddle/poo scent to both attract and trigger your Lola to potty.

I got one for Ruger and wound up returning it. He would just walk across it like it wasn't even there.
