2yr old pad trained Yorkie now peeing on rugs!!! I have read just about everything out there to help me house train our 2 yr old male Yorkie Hadley. He has been using a puppy pad in his own private closet since day one. He has been doing so great with this and I was so proud of myself for training him to use it. He HATES the cold. So going outside during winter here in Oklahoma is not an option. He will go outside when its nice as well but prefers the pad. That is until the past few weeks. Now he has decided to urinate on rugs. We have hard wood and tile throughout our home. No carpet. But we do have rugs in almost every room. He does not go on our large rug under the dining room table, only on the small rugs ( such as in front of each door and under the kitchen sink). Over the last few weeks I have now had to throw out 4 different rugs. This is getting expensive. I have now been forced to confining him back in his room when we are gone and I guess instead of letting him sleep with my daughters he will have to sleep confined as well. Which I HATE. My question is, why would a trained 2 yr old start using rugs???? He has been trained for a very long time, with only occasional mishaps on a towel in the bathroom floor after my husband had come in from the barn. Which I am assuming he was covering the scent of the horses. I need help. I really don't want to have to remove all the rugs in the house. Is there anything you can spray on the rugs themselves to make him not want to urinate there? Thanks for any advice

There is a spray called Boundary that has ketone in it. I bought a similar product called "Indoor No!" for my first dog. It came in an aerosol can, it did work but made Lucy very unhappy- I don't know why- guess she didn't like the house to smell bad- but it did work she quit peeing on the bathrugs. If you google " indoor no " now it comes up with a natural garlic product. I would have to spray the whole house for Abby(6 months)- she's not particular about where she has an accident !

Thank you so much. As a matter of fact I went to Wal-Mart and found something very similar to what you are describing. It is called OUT indoor repellent. Poor Hadley hates it!!!! I washed the rug in front of the kitchen sink after spraying it with vinegar and then once dry I sprayed it very lightly with the repellent spray. He took one sniff and ran into the next room. It took him almost 2 hrs to even come close to the rug. He still will not walk on it. I really think this is going to work I will just have to spray all the rugs everyday for a while. Hopefully he will get the message. For now, I am relieved.

| Just a thought - do you used washable pee pads or disposable ones. I always used the disposable ones, then tried to move to the washable ones - she started peeing on all of the rugs I the house. I don't think she could distinquish between the washable pads and the rugs. Put her back on the disposable pads and al was well.

I actually do use disposable pads and always have. I just wasn't sure I could stomach dirty pee pads in the same washer we wash our clothes in He still will not go near the rug sprayed with repellent. He did start sniffing another rug in a bedroom earlier and I caught him and scared him by clapping and saying NO. I will have to get it sprayed as well. Keeping my fingers crossed he will realize soon that rugs are not ok and go back to his normal routine of using his closet with pee pads. Thanks for the response
