| 2 Puppies 1 Crate Hi Guys, We just got 2 unrelated Yorkies, 1 is a 12 weeks old girl and the other is 6 months old boy. The breeder suggested keeping them in the same crate and I left them in overnight and they seemed to handle it OK. However I've seen conflicting reports as to whether or not this is a good or bad idea. Is there a consensus as to whether or not they can be kept in the same crate? |

| I don't have a yorkie puppy yet but I do have a bichon frise that I crate trained. I think each puppy needs their own crate. A crate is not only used for housebreaking but the crate is also serves as a den. Think of it as their own little safe haven. My furgirl places her toys in her crate, takes naps in her crate and actually goes in her crate when she doesn't want to be bothered with anyone. If you keep both yorkies in the same crate they wont have their own space. At their age and size two crates wont be too expensive. I would allow each pup to have their own space so they can have a little space and time apart when wanted. I am not an expert but my girl is 7 years old and still loves her crate when she wants. |

| I think each puppy needs it's own space. A puppy should bond with you first and not look to the other dog(s) for leadership and parenting.

| I'm a firm believer that everyone needs their own space (crate). They need some time apart; there is no chance they will squabble and one (or both) will get hurt and mine do seem to like the den-like quality the crates have. We put blankets over the top (not completely covered) and keep soft blankets inside and they will both crawl in there when they are tired and nap.

| Thanks for the replies. Do those with 2 crates keep them widely separated or right next to each other? |

| I put Abby"s (the new puppy) crate next to Ziva's. The first night when Abby cried Ziva barked (it was crazy) but the second night Ziva "growled" to her and quieted her right down. Third night was the charm- Silence! Ziva has been "stealing" toys from the puppy and hiding them in her crate! |

| I think the first concern is... is your 6m/o male fixed... I had a couple dogs growing up who refused to sleep in seperate kennels, we let them share a space. Mind you they were brothers from the same litter and were only in kennels at night... but they loved napping together in them. Mind you this crate was big enough for a great dane and my li'l boys were 15lbs each. Each dog had a very strong bond to a family member. One was very bonded to me, the other was very bonded to my mom&sister. I think it depends on the dogs... I would for now seperate them and make sure you are building your own bond with each dog until they are older

| We've got them on Friday, plan to get them checked out at the vet hopefully tomorrow. Will schedule snip, snip ASAP. They seem to sleep together very well but I'll get another crate just so they each have their own space. |

and Bear too! ♥ Donating Member | My breeder recommended my three Yorkie/Maltese (2 males and 1 female) share a crate. They are close in age but not from the same litter. I have never had any problems and they love their crate! Even when they aren't in the crate they will curl up together on their bed. Now I just have 2 since Rusty (R.I.P) passed away on 9/19/11.

| Congratulations and Welcome to YT. I have 4 Yorkies, 2 males and 2 females. They all sleep together but are not crated. They are confined by a gate in the kitchen/sunroom.
