I'm a firm believer that everyone needs their own space (crate).
They need some time apart; there is no chance they will squabble and one (or both) will get hurt and mine do seem to like the den-like quality the crates have.
We put blankets over the top (not completely covered) and keep soft blankets inside and they will both crawl in there when they are tired and nap.
