| ![]() First introduction on neutral territory is a good idea. I never could figure how to do that repeatedly, however, once I owned both dogs. Once she's home; she's home. Is there anyway you could take Charlie to meet her before you bring her home? If they hit it off right away; you will know that the transition might be easier. We had to keep ours separated for a while until my 4 y/o Westie got used to having Lucy around. They were kept in separate crates and only together when walking or outside in the big yard. While in the house - not together - until everyone could get along. Pick up toys and treats and don't leave anything on the floor until you know they won't fight over them. Pay your older dog more attention than you do the puppy so he won't be jealous.

| ![]() We will be welcoming Maxwell to our home in 2 weeks and are hoping that Coopertino (18 months) will welcome him and not be too upset. Cooper is ever so friendly and submissive with other dogs and am hoping he does well welcoming his brother (same mom - 2nd time with the breeder). Any tips welcome on making the interaction a success welcome. Thanks. Lyn |

Like others above, I reassured my first boy by giving him extra attention, speaking to him first, or giving him alone time. Make sure Cooper has a place to escape from Maxwell when he wants to. For my Max, his escape was the couch because Teddy couldn't jump that high. I also tried to focus their attention on things like doing tricks for treats or taking walks together. That helped them bond and not want to spend all day wrestling. (Don't worry, some dogs just want to cuddle from the start, especially if Cooper is submissive with other dogs). We had a few jealousy issues to work through, but it was pretty easy. Also the younger one wanted to eat out of the older one's bowl. I think I separated them for about a week to eat and then it wasn't necessary anymore. Best wishes.

Yorkie Talker | ![]() I have 2boys my first boy is dex and he is nearly 2. We adopted him from a dogs home at the very end of November. He is a big softy and was great when our seeing other dogs and LOVED it when my sisters yorkie came to visit. So we decided to adopt another on. We found monty a yorkie chihauhua cross nearly 1 yr old on a preloved website and went to meet him with dex at a local field. Everything went really well so we decided to take him. Once home they were fine and getting on really well. 3days later they had started to play fight but this was starting to become more and more out if control! Neither one would give up even if the other one did submit. We did some research on the web and was basically to you can NEVER have a terrier bread with another dog! I was deverstated! We looked into monty going to live with my other halts auntie but I just couldn't give him up. Since then we have spoken to our local vet who assured us that this is normal for the two boys and to just keep an eye on them. If things start to get out of hand we give them a quick pray with water and they stop right away. We are 2weeks in now and to my huge relief they are great friends now. Still the little spay now and then but I think the now know each others boundaries. We had dex nuetered when we got him, and monty was done a few days ago. This has helped settle them down and dex became a lot gentler with monty when he realised something was different about him. They are both curled up together now on the sofa and are becoming the best of friends. I hate to think of us giving up monty if we had listened to the web advise. If things start to go wrong give it some time and things will hopefully sort themselves out (sometimes with a little intervention). Don't panic and don't give up on them. Xx Love my boys |
