| I know! I have often thought I should post it somewhere as a tip for people.

| Another good one that I think I read here was the owner brought the leash out and asked the loose dog if he wanted to go for a walk. LOL, we had a dog like that.

| I taught Princess to sit then 'wait' before I open the door. That's still with her leash on that I'm holding but I just wanted her to understand she can't go out until I say ok or come. We don't have a fence here, I use a long leash to give her a little more freedom. As for the electric fences, no way I would use them on any dog. What happens if they get away from you as you leave the vet or pet store...they run & feel nothing, hmm, must be ok to go until they do. It teaches them nothing, IMO. I don't believe they learn to stay in the yard, they're just learning to avoid that painful shock. There are some pretty interesting videos on youtube of full grown humans trying these devices & it doesn't look pleasant. Can't imagine it on the body of something a fraction of an adults size.

| That reminds of when Princess got loose in my parent's parking lot. I tried to use the trick that will get her attention in any situation: wanna go to grandma's house? She looked at the house then at me like I was nuts, she did not fall for it, LOL. But when I said bye bye & opened the car door she knew that was possible & got in.

| Moses is so A.D.D when we are outside. We were out for potty 2 days ago, when he heard neighbor kids 2 yards away. He stopped "mid-stream" perked his ears, then bolted. He ran thru our neighbor's sprinklers and into the kids' yard. They had just moved in, so they had never met the neighborhood yapper! Usually I can tell him to stop and sit, but this time he put on quite a show! He danced away every time I got near him! Little turd! He finally ran back thru the other neighbor's yard (and their sprinklers) into our yard. He loves being outside, but is unpredictable based on his mood! I have thought of the electric fence, but could never do something like that to my little man!

| All 4 of my yorkies have invisible fence collars. Invisible Fence has very small collars that are not obtrusive, even on my 3 pounder. They are set to the lowest shock level & they each have been shocked only once. That's all it took. We have a 4-lane highway behind our property & they will chase rabbits out of our yard but they know right where to stop so they don't get zapped. It allows us all to be outside together, they can run & chase, we can play fetch, all without the entanglement of tie-outs. They are NEVER allowed outside unsupervised as we have hawks & fox in the area. They are able to fully enjoy their yard and remain safe. I would never solely rely on the invisible fencing, though. As I said, we are always out there with them.

Thor's Human Donating Member | Actually, one of the best ways to get a loose dog to come back to you is to call to them, then get down on the ground. The dog wants to see what's up with you. I remember once when volunteer walking, I lost the leash on an exuberent labrador. She was halfway down the block in a flash. NO way could I catch up to her. I dropped down to all fours, and another flash later, she was back. I felt so smart for remembering that trick that it almost made up for how dumb I felt dropping her leash.

| I want to be able to be with him outside without him hurting his neck when he runs and is in a leash and then suddenly *boom* the end of the leash, can't go further...

| Yorkies should wear harnesses, not collars. So he shouldn't be hurting his neck at all.
