| Really frustrated!! Peeing and pooping in the house! So our Yorkie is almost 6 months old, and she is still having a hard time with potty training. I know we can't expect perfection yet, but I would like to see some progress! She is fine when she is in her crate at night, but, when we let her out during the day, she'll pee on the floor--even after we've just taken her outside and she's done her business outside. I've tried washing the floor, but I think the scent of her urine is now in the hardwood, and she thinks it's okay to pee (and poop) in the house. I've tried catching her in the act and moving her outside, but it doesn't seem to work. She knows what she is doing because when I catch her, she hangs her head like she knows she's done a bad thing. I've read about crate training during the day-only letting her out to go to the bathroom outside and play for a bit and then put her back in and repeat later. Have any of you tried this method? I'm feeling bad about leaving her in the crate so much, but she is peeing everywhere in my downstairs. Any suggestions? Is crate training a humane way to train given the fact that she'll be stuck in that little crate so much of the day and night? Thanks for all your help. She's a cutie, but I'm beginning to wonder if we'll ever move forward in the potty training department. |

| I'm blessed that I had to only deal with that problem with Secret for only a month or two. I didn't crate train him but I did do something like it. I actually pad trained him. When I first got him when I would go to work I would put him in the bathroom I lined the whole floor with training pads I placed his food, toys and and crate in there. After every two wks I would take a later away (of course I change them everyday) and now that he is 5 months old he only has 1 pad down and when he's out during the day with us he'll go to the bathroom on his own and use his pad on his own. Secret also handles his business out side he's trained to go outside and on a pad. As far as for crate training I think it's a great thing we had a Pit Bull (Midnight RIP) that we crate trained and it was the best thing we could ever done. I hope this helps. Good Luck

| Yorkies can be very hard to potty train. I used the play pen method instead of crate training. You put them in an x-pen or a collapsable pen of some kind (I use sea breeze petite pens) when they cannot be watched closely w a bed, toys, food dish, water dish and a pee pad. I also feed them in the pen.

| Kobie is almost 7months old, and he is doing good with potty training, but it has been one more job !! At first he would pee outside and come back in a pee again. I have found out that they usually do not finish. Now he may pee 3 different times when we go outside. The poop has been the problem. It takes a lot of patience. I have him on a leash, and we walk and walk and I will keep telling him to potty. When he does, I really praise him, and then I say "ok, lest go to the house ". Then he runs to the house. I always give him his cheerios as reward and tell him "good boy, potty outside " ! He is doing really good. Hope this helps.

| My Zoey was beginning to backtrack a little. I think the error was that I was giving her too much freedom in my home. She started pooping in my front room, so I had to backtrack with the crate training and outdoor pottying. After I take her outside to relieve herself, I would usually leave her outside there for another 30-45 minutes (with my other dog) to make sure she has fully eliminated. Then I would bring her in for another hour or so of freedom. I have severely limited her range of the house (she is no longer allowed in the dining and living areas due to carpeting. I had to close that off to her) and the accidents have all but stopped. So I think my error was not allowing her enough time to finish pooping and peeing outside and giving her access to areas without watching her. I look forward to her being 100% potty trained like our beloved CJ. |
